Format:Audio CD
The first time you listen - you simply adore it.
The second time - you just cannot stop loving it!
Gathering two Divas of Classical Music, Jessie Norman & Kathleen Battle, this concert gives the exact idea how spirituals and opera singing can become a unisson of feelings and emotions.
It is absolutely brilliant! It seems so easy and yet so elaborated. In some parts, you can almost get the idea that you are listening to a two-old-friends-gathering after who-knows-how-long!
I invite you all to this masterpiece - almost like a "masterclasse" for joy and good music. It is a must!

Format:Audio CD
This is a peerless recording of negro spirituals and should receive the highest possible acclaim. I have a (very) worn cassette version of it which has been played to death and am now upgrading to a CD. There is music here to fit every mood, from the uplifting to the cynically humourous, from the despairing to the hopeful. Both singers have the ability to match their talent to the material - this is NOT one of those instances of classical singers who cannot sing 'down'. More highly recommended than words can say.

In Carnegie Hall, Jessye Norman and Kathleen Battle joined forces for an evening of breathtaking "soprano-ing". Whether solo - Jessye Norman's rendition of "Sinner, Don't Let This Harvest Pass" or Kathleen Battle's of "Lord, How Come Me Here" simply blow your mind - or together (e.g., a beautiful version of "There Is A Balm In Gilead"), whether solemn or verging on the comic ("Scandalize my name"), these two ladies bring the old tunes to life in their very own way. It's a real pity that the video of this performance doesn't seem to be available anymore, but get the CD and enjoy!
