Book Description

Having escaped Gathin's clutches, Roberta is on the run with the child she stole from her nemesis. In this case, the best way to avoid a war is to run, hide and never look back. But it soon becomes apparent that leaving Ridgewood behind may have not been in Roberta and her friends' best interests, for things are happening in the tiny town that, once again, cannot be explained.

Spirits of the Middlelands is the third book from the Inside Evil series. Despite battling a curse that descends upon Ridgewood on a 10 yearly cycle, Roberta seems to have become entangled in a world of mystery, danger and doppelgängers. There's a war coming, and though she and her fellow gatekeepers' believed they could prevent it, they're now realising that they'll need to use all their skills to stop the plague from Gathin reaping destruction.

5.0 out of 5 stars And it continues 27 Feb. 2014

As per my previous reviews for the two books before this, in my opinion this series is just getting better and better, Pretty much as soon as you finish one you want to pick up the next and follow the adventures of the "Gatekeepers" in this realm and also in Gathin.

I'm now on the fourth book and again, it's off to an excellent start.....the only disappointment is I don't think the 5th has been completed yet - hurry up Geoffrey :-) !

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to the "Inside Evil" series 23 Sept. 2013

This is another great addition to the series; just as strange as the first two books in the series, but also just as enjoyable!

4.0 out of 5 stars The third book in the 'Inside Evil' series 26 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Spirits of the Middlelands is the third book in the 'Inside Evil' series by G.Wakeling, so if you haven't read the first two you may want to check out Inside Evil and The Tower of Souls First.

If you have been reading the Inside Evil series then you'll be glad to know that all your favourite characters are present throughout. Roberta and Sam are back on form, although in my opinion, there's not enough of them. This is a great platonic relationship that makes me chuckle, and when you throw Martha in the mix you have great fun.
For me, I enjoyed the writing in the Middlelands as you can feel Wakeling really getting into the flow of his storyline, and everything feels much smoother. His description is less over the top and I am glad of this, yet he still manages to take you just where he wants you to go, in fact I would say more so visually than the first two books.
Although a lot of questions have been answered and loose ends tied up, there's so much more to learn about Gathin and the strong hold it has over our small crew of gatekeepers, who are are now fighting for something much bigger than first thought.

So, it's another four star rating from me. Read and enjoy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a shame. 5 Jun. 2013

Really enjoyed the first two books in the series. Unfortunately I think the author was stalling for time and money with the Middlelands. Would have worked better as a trilogy. Lacked pace and direction. Won't be buying the next in the series.

Inside Evil Series, Books 1-4 by Geoffrey Wakeling
My Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

I may be a latecomer to Geoffrey Wakeling's paranormal Inside Evil series, but I would want to be first in line when Book 5 comes out. These fast-paced, thrilling novels are ones that refuse to let you go until you've reached the very last page then still have their claws in you when you're done.

Sleepy Ridgewood and its residents have vague memories of flurries of death that descend upon them approximately every decade. While the death rate does seem to spike at regular periods in time, it simply seems to be part of a normal, although depressing, cycle. Or is it?

A teacher at a local high school, Roberta, finds her student dead one evening and promptly passes out. Apart from having an identical burn to her left foot when she comes to, there seems to be nothing untoward with the death. Or so she thinks, until she starts hearing whispers in a strange language and seeing people who shouldn't be there at all.

Soon it becomes clear that there is more to the string of deaths than anyone thought and Roberta finds herself between worlds to battle doppelgängers in an alternate dimension. Can she kill ruthlessly and topple a regime of evil or is she being manipulated into a position that will merge both worlds and result in hers being overcome?

This is a beautifully written, thought provoking series that brings you to the edge of your seat and throws you in directions that you would never expect. Nothing about what you think in the beginning is right and even with the fourth book read, I still have no idea where this is going to end up! Or, if there will be a happy ending. Will there? At this point, I can't even hazard a guess. And I love it!

Of course, there were little bits about the characters that I couldn't stand, like how gullible Roberta was in the beginning or how complacent Sam became about the entire incident. And Karl! I could cheerfully strangle him. Really. What I hated the most? How that poor cat was killed! It was distressing for me (in such a short passage) since my own baby Monster was hurt in exactly that way when he was a week old kitten - but attacked by a rat. While he did survive, the touch-and-go angst of the couple of weeks when he underwent a series of surgeries and was struggling to live rushed back in full. Which gives the new reader a hint of exactly how detailed and graphic this story is!

Inside Evil is a series that I will gladly follow to the end then read and reread for years to come. Geoffrey Wakeling has again dazzled me and I'm so happy he did.

>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. This book is the third book in the inside Evil Series. The book ends in a cliffhanger.

>The story picks up a few weeks after Roberta, Barry and Alice return to Ridgewood through a portal in Susan's cellar. Roberta, Sam and Alice moved to London, to hide from the queen. The remaining characters in the know, left in Ridgewood, take turns protecting the portal. Alice and Roberta share two visions. Sam suffers weird symptoms from his visit to Gathin and decides to move his family back to Ridgewood. Martha starts to lose her mind and another gatekeeper is called for help. It seems like a lot is happening, but still pages are wasted in mundane descriptions of everything.

>This story threatens a retaliation from the evil in Gathin, yet nothing happens. Trying to help Martha is the only action. There is a slight sub-story involving a doppelgänger and the ex police officer, Kurt. The rules for the two parallel universes are confusing as well. Both the doppelgänger and the real person cannot be in the same universe, yet both Barry and Roberta existed in Gathin along with their respective doppelgängers. When the doppelgänger in the real realm is killed, why isn't the real person trapped in Gathin freed? This story moved very slowly, but it was a short read, so the inaction didn't last forever.

>There is so much to work with in this series. I really hope the story starts to take advantage of the creative license and starts to move, instead of all the literary stall outs.

> This book is for a young adult audience.

This is the third book in the trilogy. You will want to order Inside Evil and The tower of Souls first. I had never read this author before but he is outstanding. If you like supernatural thrillers you will love this trilogy. It is full of suspense and the characters are well fleshed out.
