Do NOT buy this film 14 Nov 2006
I'm a big martial arts fan and am excited about the arrival of Tony Jaa. I have bought Ong Bak and Warrior King, both brilliant, and was eagerly another Tony Jaa experience so I bought this film.

What a mistake that was. The cover and blub indicate that he'll be in it and playing a major role. I COULD NOT SPOT HIM. Even if he does slip in there somewhere the picture/fighting/sound/plot/acting/effects..... were AWFUL.

Don't buy it.

First off - don't be fooled by the cover, this is not a Tony Jaa film in the sense that Ong Bak is. This is a much earlier, relatively low budget martial arts film (similar in style and entertainment value to many of the kung fu films from China and Hong Kong in the 60s and 70s). Tony Jaa has only a small role, so those expecting to see him on screen for long will be disappointed. Panna Rittikrai (Tony Jaa's mentor and the stunt choreographer for Ong Bak etc) has a much larger role, but all fighting is still filmed in the old style with frequent camera cuts etc. Despite these points, it is still perfectly possible to enjoy the film - just approach it as you would any of those old Kung Fu movies, if you enjoy them, you'll probably enjoy this.

How dare they?
How dare they put a big Jaa face on the front cover. This does not 'star' Tony Jaa at all. This is nothing like the excellent Warrior King, which has the most realistic fighting... Read more

Old school meets Jaa
I'm a big fan of Tony Jaa and the new wave of action he is bringing.

This is one of his early films made in the mid 90's and is not Ong Bak level action. Read more

Only for completists
Spirited Warrior only has a few minutes of Tony Jaa in a fight sequence - the rest of the film is his mentor portraying a kind of zombie. Read more
