5.0 out of 5 stars best of -- yes! 26 Aug 2010
Format:Audio CD
This really has everything you would want by Norman Greenbaum. It includes the best album and single tracks from his most commercially successful period together with earlier songs. There is a bonus version of the "big hit" and it all seems to have been well mastered for cd. That's it then. 5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good CD 7 Jan 2014
By Phil
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
he was one of the voices of the 70's you couldn't go anywhere without hearing Spirit in the sky, it's the reason why I bought this CD must admit there are a lot of mediocre tracks which is the reason why he was a One Hit Wonder in this country.

Spirit In The Sky really arrests the ears, up front fuzz guitar at full throttle.
Sadly for me very little else keeps my interest, California Earthquake and Junior Cadilac being the exceptions.
However if you see this for small money and you like late 1960s and early 1970s American music, you could give it a try.

2.0 out of 5 stars Demo Not A Demo 12 Sep 2007
By John J. Agnew, Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
"Spirit In The Sky" on Disc #2 is the same length as Disc #1, 4:01 mins., and is not 3:02 mins. as stated on rear of CD case. When both are simultaneously played, they sound indentical and sync perfectly. This (missing) demo track was the reason why I purchased this CD set.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Norman Ever Recorded Comes Close To Spirit In The Sky! 30 Oct 2012
By J. Thompson - Published on Amazon.com
The single Spirit In The Sky is a total standout in this 2 CD anthology, in fact I rate it as one of the best songs of the 1970s.
It's a guitar led hard rock classic, with feedback/reverb to the fore.
Very little after that really hits the mark, California Earthquake is maybe the next best and Junior Cadillac is OK.
Some songs, including Children Of Paradise and The Eggplant That Ate Chicago, have not stood the test of time well at all.
Norman writes all the material here, which dates from the late 1960s to 1972, when it appears he gave up recording to run a farm in Petaluma, California.
I would really like to have enjoyed so much more of these tracks, but in the end only Spirit In The Sky is a must have.
