The single Spirit In The Sky is a total standout in this 2 CD anthology, in fact I rate it as one of the best songs of the 1970s.
It's a guitar led hard rock classic, with feedback/reverb to the fore.
Very little after that really hits the mark, California Earthquake is maybe the next best and Junior Cadillac is OK.
Some songs, including Children Of Paradise and The Eggplant That Ate Chicago, have not stood the test of time well at all.
Norman writes all the material here, which dates from the late 1960s to 1972, when it appears he gave up recording to run a farm in Petaluma, California.
I would really like to have enjoyed so much more of these tracks, but in the end only Spirit In The Sky is a must have.
