Book Description

30 Sep 2011

In this hip self-transformational book, Bernstein shows how to make happiness a way of life and shares the life-changing lessons that she has lived and learned in the hope that other young women will be guided to do the same. Spirit Junkie shows readers how to tap into their own spirit in their search for happiness. This is not a book on how to get happiness; rather it's a guide to releasing the blocks to the happiness that already lives inside.

Marianne Williamson has passed the baton to Gabrielle by telling her own followers, "Check out the woman they call the young Marianne Williamson." Gabrielle Bernstein is the founder of the Women's Entrepreneurial Network and Herfuture.com, a modern-day life guru and the author of Add More ~ing to Your Life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple lessons in life that strike a chord! 9 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I read about Gabrielle Bernstein at a bit of a low point, and I have to say I bought the book on the strength of the cover and the fact that she was being touted as the Carrie Bradshaw of self-help. Bernstein refers to the work of another guru and a previous book of her own, and I feel it would have helped if I had read them beforehand, but this is just an observation not a criticism. Sure, this book is hippie and New Age in parts but it absolutely resonated with me. I am sure all women could recognise some parts of Bernstein's reflections of her own experiences. She doesn't go on about herself too much, though, just when she is making an observation. The key themes she unocvers about leading a happier life are simple and surprising. They made me think a lot and while I am sure I will struggle somewhat to put them all into practice at the same time, the book is easy to dip in and out of for a bit of a motivational boost. It is also written from the heart, and I appreciated the honesty involved. If you are struggling a bit, but keep making the same mistakes and wondering what to do to help yourself, then give this book a go.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suggest you read her previous book first. 10 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought this book after seeing an article about the author in The Sunday Times, I particularly liked her quote "If you choose to see a person's darkness, you strengthen your darkness within. If you choose to see their light, you shine from the inside out." Initially I was very disappointed with the book, I found her concepts a bit jumbled, and didn't really understand fully what she was talking about when she wrote of ~ing. So I decided to download a sample chapter of her previous book 'Add More ~Ing to Your Life'. Well after just reading that one chapter I finally understood what ~ing is - 'inner guidance' and this made Spirit Junkie a far more enjoyable read. This book wont drastically change your life if you are already connected to your spiritual side, but it does make you think abut things in a more focused way. However if this is an area that you have never really paid much attention too, then I definitely recommend this book to you. BUT I would firmly say only if you read 'Add More ~Ing to Your Life' first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking 2 May 2012
Format:Paperback
In Spirit Junkie, Gabrielle Bernstein brings a fresh and modern approach to 'A Course in Miracles' to the table. Putting herself in a completely vulnerable place she reveals some of her deepest and darkest challenges in life from drug/alcohol abuse to relationships that just aren't going anywhere.

I found this book particularly fascinating and made 'A Course in Miracles' accessible for anyone.

For anyone who doesn't know 'A Course in Miracles' is a mystical text on creating happiness in all areas of your life. It's a huge book like a bible and can be really intense.

This book helps you understand the outline of the course, giving you the opportunity to apply it to your life straight away.

Fabulous book, I couldn't put it down! I have since met Gabrielle and she's the real deal! x
