Atmospheric stand-alone fantasy by bestselling writer Mickey Zucker Reichert and talented newcomer Jennifer Wingert

Product Description

Kiarda lives in a magic-laced land where peace is guarded so fiercely that those who train as warriors are outcast . . . until the arrival of a well-trained foreign army bent on conquest and determined to use everything in their power, including mages trained in the deadliest of the six magic arts: the magic of destruction. Kiarda should have been spirit-linked to a fox, but the cub died at the moment of their birth. Now that spirit lurks deep inside her, and at the time of her greatest need, it could prove her greatest ally . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice book - makes good reading, 13 Jan 2001

This review is from: Spirit Fox (Hardcover)
One of the rare books where you don't feel the urge to skip chapsters to find out what's happening to your favourite characters - everything's equally interesting. Style throughout can be quite light-hearted and funny, as well as dramatic. Only one thing: The epilogue ruins everything!!! Okay so if you don't read it you won't know all that happened, but anything you make up yourself is better than what's in the epilogue!! Trust me :)

5.0 out of 5 stars My Review, 14 Sep 2010

I have always rated Mickey Zucker Reichert as an exceptional fantasy writer. Anyone who ever enjoyed the books of David Gemmell will find that Mickey has a similar writing style and an equal ability to provide that adrenaline rush that accompanies all stories of adventure and sorcery.
This book takes the reader into a world of spirit bonding, where children with a particular bloodline are magically linked to an animal at the time of their birth. Although in my experience this is not a new concept, the way that Mickey Zucker Reichert and Jennifer Wingert deliver this story is at once captivating and exciting. A really good book and one that I can heartily reccommend to any fantasy fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent medieval fantasy..., 5 April 2009

I have fallen away from reading most fantasy for a while. When I pulled this off the shelf I had low expectations for it. Fortunately, it was quite a treat to read.

This book starts out with a well created medieval society that declares a lasting peace (referred to as the Devine Peace in this book). Now that lasting peace has come ot the land any form of war is outlawed. The healers are still allowed to use magic to heal the sick and at some periods, when a baby animal is born at the exact moment nearby when a human baby is born, their spirits are linked. I admit that at first I didn't take to the concept well. But I persevered and my perseverance was richly rewarded.

This is a well-told story of good and evil. The lines are blurred well so that some good become evil, while some evil become good. There is a satisfying detail that helps develop this into a truly fine fantasy novel. If you like a well told story, fantasy, swords, and sorcery you'll love this book. It has earned keeper status on my shelf.
