Product Description

"If you're a fan of science fiction and like that fantastical element, then dive into this book." - Amanda Curtis

I should be scared, like the rest of them.

I should be at home with the doors and windows barricaded. But no. I'm out on the streets, walking and walking, sure my mind is about to burn out. The last thing I need is to run into a snot-nosed kid with a stolen alien artifact. Both seem to have something to do with the vines invading the city, but why should I care? If my mind burns out it will take care of the problem on my end permanently.

Unfortunately for me, the vines care.

A science fiction short story. This edition includes the complete BONUS story, "In the Cauldron"

"I loved the main character, so cynical and still subtly caring -- very well done." - Katharina Gerlach

"This book grabs you from the very start and does not let go even after the finish." - CJ Cristtize

More About the Author

It's said I was launched into space from birth and I haven't been back to Earth since.

There might be some truth in that.

As a reader I love science fiction with great plots, interesting characters, exotic locales, all accompanied by a sense of wonder with optimistic endings. As a writer, I love the same.

I love to visit with other science fiction fans, so come on by and say hello.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raise the flag! 5 April 2011

I've read Spires by J.A. Marlow once before and even with the second read this story is just as great. Just as exciting. Just as amazing as the first time. It knocks you in the chest -- figuratively -- and drags you along at a break neck speed that doesn't stop til THE END. The characters, never really given names, are fleshed out even in this small amount of story. And the lack of names doesn't hinder the story a bit, you can tell which voice is the kid's and which is the older boy's.

This isn't the only thing I've read of Marlow's and I can say that each book and story is just as original as the last, and just as wonderful. The locales are vivid which is twined so thoroughly with the story and other elements that it creates a flawless piece of art that will have you wanting more and more. And the author has the ideas and can go all the way. We just have to rally behind her.

I've already picked up my flag, how about you?
