I installed this heatsink on my Asrock a75fm2 mini itx motherboard replacing my old low profile Akasa heatsink. I replaced the old heatsink as my old temperatures constantly were reaching the low-mid 40 degrees mark on just general tasks such as watching HD youtube videos and web browsing at the same time and it was a bit on the noisy side.

I must say this heatsink is much quieter and on having 3 videos open and 3 web pages open it reaches a minimum of 10 degrees less! It literally hasn't gone past the 36 degrees mark. On idle it hovers on 29-30 degrees. It looks the part too. Never used a Spire product before but so far so good! much happier!

Buyers should be made aware that due to the size of the heat sink, that it may be difficult or impossible to fit this cooler on M-ATX systems but ATX systems as far as I know seem to be OK.

I have installed 100s of fans over the years working as a systems engineer for one of the largest computer company's, but now my interest in fans has changed, I install them in super High Definition TV Systems in-between the layers of powerful blue ray amplifiers and digital HD recorders in glass racks under the large screens in domestic environments. I always chop the plug off and run them on 9 volts, and I never use the supplied cooling compound this is so it does not get anywhere near children or animals, I am not interested in warranties as they never fail. With a room temperature of 72 degrees the internal layer temperature never exceeds 78 F and in systems like this I install a remote sensor to a digital thermometer on the front of the kit. This particular fan is super silent on it,s reduced voltage. One further point of interest is the fan is much deeper than the 25mm given in the technical specification of this product.

The Spire CPU fan was delivered quickly. And just as quickly into a media server, replacing the standard fan that comes with the AMD CPU. Now that fan was noisy! The media server lives in the bedroom and the stock CPU fan had an awful drone to it.

The wife nearly cancelled the Media-Server-in-the-Bedroom project. Determined to get Sky out of our house, I thought I'd push on with the Spire fan. The Spire is rated at 26.0dBA but what does that really mean? I assumed that meant quiet.

Sadly, the search continues. The Spire IS quieter, and would do the job for any computer that is located anywhere except a bedroom. In the bedroom, you can still hear quite a hum that is nowhere near the noise the Sky Plus makes. I appreciate that the Sky Plus has nowhere near a quad-core CPU.

I've located another CPU fan, a Scythe Shuriken that is rated at between 10.5 - 31.67dBA. What does that mean? Only one way to find out. I obtained it elsewhere for faster delivery. But I'll review it on Amazon soon, so please do search for my reviews...

Ive found a use for this fan and it works great. However Its original purpose was for my new I7 CPU which has a 1155 socket, which on amazon it says it fits.. which it doesn't. It actually supports socket 775 1156 and the AMD ones but not 1155! However a great fan.
