Amazon.co.uk Review

A moody, low-key indie about isolation and obsession, Spiral marks a reunion of star and co-writer Joel David Moore and co-director Adam Green, whose previous effort was the spastic slasher tribute Hatchet. Moore is very effective as Mason, a withdrawn loner whose penchant for painting portraits of women may hint at a darker secret. An outcast at his dreary day job, he finds a sympathetic friend in a new co-worker (Amber Tamblyn), but Mason's peculiarities soon leave their mark on the relationship. As subdued and thoughtful as Hatchet was crass and loud, Spiral succeeds at creating an unsettling atmosphere (aided in no small part by the ceaseless gloom of its Seattle locations), and if the twist ending isn't terribly surprising, the picture as a whole is an admirable attempt at a thriller driven by psychology rather than pure terror. --Paul Gaita

DVD Description

On the surface, Mason Green (Joel Moore – Avatar) seems to live a below-average life. Nervous and reclusive, he spends his days at work fielding mindlessly repetitive customer service calls. His only human contact comes from his narcissistic boss, Berkeley (Zachary Levi – TV’s Chuck). Hardly a friend, Berkeley is still the only person who really reaches out to Mason. That is, until he meets Amber (Amber Tamblyn – The Ring), a whimsical wallflower determined to break down his many barriers, and wake up the artist that lies deep within him. Armed with palate and brush, the two embark on a journey of friendship and discovery that may finally help the solitary man find the life balance he has always lacked. But the past that made Mason who he is still haunts him, and the love he now craves might just cause his quiet life to spiral totally out of control.

Love it 25 Jun 2010
Format:DVD
As a fan of Zachary Levi from Chuck, I thought i would check out Spiral. I wasn't disappointed in buying Spiral. From a great script written by Joel David Moore (Avatar) and Jeremy Boreing. The direction of the story went in just shocked me. Joel plays the part of the slightly warped person in Mason really well.Zac being the narcissistic boss/friend of Mason, Berkeley is a total departure from the caring and friendly Chuck. Berkeley and Mason friendship is something that you think wouldn't work but it does. Also starring Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica)and Amber Tamblyn are great additions to the cast. Amber playing the "interest" of Mason and befriending Mason is a good casting. Amber is this sweet character that is trying to bring out the best in Mason. Tricia playing Zacs "girlfriend" Sasha.

I would recommend anyone who is a fan of indie and alternative films they should buy this movie. The final scenes of this movie are like wow didnt so and so realize this was going on.

Would love to see more from Coattails Entertainment(Joel and Zachary's own production company).

Adam Green's previous film Hatchet was a major let down, probably due to the amount of hype it recieved. However I had no real expectations with this film and was amazed at the growth in film making from a well recieved, but ultimately average slasher film, to a beautiful little thriller which exceeds on every level - direction, acting and the organic jazz soundtrack. Shows what that you don't have to rtesort to the same old cliches to produce a great indie film.

Something Different 22 May 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Different in some ways but could have been better, It was a bit slow all the way through and the acting was good, the story was good but lacked my interest to boast about it, didn't do much and I classed it as a B grade type of movie, but that is my opinion only, Others will differ from my judgement as all are entitled to.
