Review

'Hugely entertaining and packed with more explosive action scenes than is probably decent, SPIRAL starts off loud and ends in a bang' WATERSTONE'S BOOKS QUARTERLY 'A new writer who knows what a regular reader sitting on the bus wants - action ... Pure Die Hard, pure Rambo. This has got to be a film, surely!' LADSMAG

Product Description

A world where nuclear warheads can be hidden in a briefcase ...A world where bio-plagues are held suspended in a teardrop ...On an Earth where conventional armies are powerless to defend against the devastation wrought by single assassins, the secret organisation known as SPIRAL exists to fight a shadow war against fanatics and rogue states of every creed and political persuasion. Remorseless, unstoppable, of every country and of none, SPIRAL conducts its covert operations throughout the world in a never-ending battle for humanity's survival. But now SPIRAL itself is under attack, and if it falls the world falls with it. For more information on this or other Orbit books visit the Orbit website at www.orbitbooks.co.uk

I received the Orbit Books email newsletter recommending this book and was quite looking forward to reading it, following the standard set by the first chapter which they made available on-line. Oh dear. This really did turn out to be a complete mess of a book with a totally unnecessary amount of swearing, characters created and then killed within the next few pages, the most ridiculous repetition (if I read the word 'nastily' once in this book I read it a hundred times).
The sheer amount of physical injury that was inflicted on the main character was only surpassed by his ability to keep on fighting through it. (Can you even move with a broken sternum?).
Anyway, buy this book if you really have nothing better to spend your money on (unlikely). Robert Ludlum is a writing genius compared to this guy.

Hugely disappointing rubbish suitable only for teenage boy fantasists. This was recommended to me by Amazon, I think because I had read and enjoyed David Gunn's Death Head books, Steve L Kent's Clone books and Robert Buettner's Orphan books. Those books were hugely enjoyable and also funny, this wasn't.

The available blurb says that the Author used to be a teacher, I can only hope he didn't teach English.

The story is nonsense and the characters paper thin. There are lots of guns, explosions, car chases and military hardware but no plot. The main character absorbs a ridiculous amount of punishment against genetically engineered super soldiers and still comes out shooting. The female characters are pitiful even where they are supposedly battle hardened secret agents and trained assassins.

If you enjoy well written military sci-fi, avoid this.

I thought Andy Remic's descriptions and story telling style was technically very good, and up with the best in the action genre. The story can only be described as interesting, very unrealistic, and a little unsatisfying when it is based so far into the future, in an unlikely scenario. I have bought Quake the next one, and i am hoping for another book, not based in the future. I think Andy Remic is one to watch, he could become a very very good author. If the high tec, sci fi, futuristic idea isnt your thing, but you like fast paced action, then try Matthew Reilly. Hovercraft Racer is his latest book, and has moved his writing to another level.
I would recommend this book as it had me gripped, the storytelling was good but i didnt like the story that much.

A superb action adventure story - 6 STARS

A superb action adventure
This really is a wonderful story, and some of the negative reviews here are way off the mark. Titchfield - why are you whining about Gemmell? Read more

Bought it and thought it was brilliant - total secret agent action, hardcvore guns and ammo, awesome war scenes, great plot, great characters. They should make the film. Read more

Fast paced high entertainment.
