From the Author
Success or failure of a literary attack depends on artistry.Charles Bukowski was a Master among masters of the literary attack. He knew when and how to lift the piano pedal a little, soften up a bit, slow the speed and pressure of his stabbing pen as it penetrated his victim's corrupted spirit-body. Most literary attacks fail for their lack of syncopation, the attacker displaying obvious ignorance of what FF means as opposed to PP, in application of musical notes to a page, or in our case words upon a page.A creative attacker must sometimes be deadly-soft-almost silent for the attack to prove successful. Even when the attacker is chock-full of vitriol, and grammar is perfected, it's the lack of finessewhich causes a sudden offense to fail, and its perpetrater to be a bumbling amateur knucklehead rather than an accomplished and experienced scribe who has paid his dues and has numerous authentically published works to prove it. Thousands of followers buy the new books of such an honored and fortunate artist.Of course he will have literary enemies who always sooner or later make themselves known through their obvious and transparent literary attacks. Poor souls, let us have a moment of silence in honor of those heroic garbage collectors who must remove such eyesores in order to earn their daily bread. Thankyou, for the forum and the opportunity to share one of several themes I meant to communicate in my Spinning Off Bukowski. Steve richmondJanuary 5, l999
