More About the Author

Julia Donaldson, the 2011-2013 Children's Laureate, is the outrageously talented, prize-winning author of the world's most-loved picture books including The Gruffalo and What the Ladybird Heard.

The Gruffalo, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, is now a children's classic and publishing phenomenon; celebrating 15 years in 2014, selling over 3 million copies worldwide, was voted Great Britain's favourite bedtime story on BBC Radio 2 and was adapted and broadcast as an animation on BBC 1 on Christmas Day 2009. The Gruffalo's Child and Room on the Broom are now also films, with Room on the Broom shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2014. Julia Donaldson's most recent books with Axel Scheffler include Superworm (2012), Highway Rat (2011), Tabby McTat (2010), Stick Man (2009) and Tiddler (2008).

Julia Donaldson has also published work with David Roberts, Nick Sharratt, Emily Gravett, Rebecca Cobb, and Lydia Monks. Her collaboration with Lydia Monks began in 2003, with the first collection of Princess Mirror-Belle stories. The fabulously glittery Sugarlump and the Unicorn is their sixth, and most recent, picture book collaboration. She also writes poems, plays, songs and fiction for older children and, together with her husband Malcolm, has performed her wonderful stage shows all over the world.

This was bought as a gift for my nephew's 3rd birthday. He is spider and football mad so this seemed the perfect story. Apparently it was because he loves it and my sister has to read it to him every night! Its a lovely story about a spider who lives in a school and likes football and learns the rules of football from the school classroom. She is then able to divide her brothers and sisters into two teams and play a match. A must for all spider, football and maths fans.

Great fun. My daughter who is learning to read English as her second language found this a good read. Will happily collect the whole "blue banana" series now.

Great story from Julia Donaldson. Smaller edition but still large enough to share with a group or in whole class teaching.

Children will not be disappointed reading this. It's great fun. It takes place in a school where Spinderella the spider wants to play football, and wants to learn about numbers. Her hairy godmother helps her to do this. It is a very colourful and funny book and there is also some great games for children to do at the end of the book. My grandson loved this. I'm sure you will too. A great buy.

this is a great book, the story is really enguaging
however this is not in the same format as all of the other Julia Donaldson books that I have bought as it is black and white and novel sized. my 5yr old daughter enjoyed the story but did not like the book becasue the illustrations were not what she is used to

My kids at kindergarten liked this book, but the format I bought is quite small. I would recommend it, though.. The illustrations are lovely and it's a nice story.
