I have been a huge Dead Or Alive fan for over 30 years but I am going to be honest with my reviews of their albums and singles !
I have even had the privilege of meeting the main man - Pete Burns himself - a few times.
When Pete heard the production of Divine's 'You think you're a man' by Stock, Aitken and Waterman he was determined to work with them on what would be the lead single from Youthquake 'You spin me round (like a record)'.
Despite a fairly successful album in 'Sophisticated Boom Boom' Pete and the band were skint. Pete had to take out a bank load to pay for the demo of 'Spin Me' and when Stock, Aitken and Waterman heard it they knew they were onto a winner.
'Spin Me' was released at the end of 1984 and slowly but surely climbed to No.1 in the UK charts in March 1985.
It was Dead or Alive's first and only UK No.1 and Stock, Aitken and Waterman's first UK No.1 as producers.
Even though Hi Nrg had been around for a couple of years previous it was this single that brought Hi Nrg music to an international mass audience.
This record also changed my life in a sense. For years I was fan of electronic, synth and italo music but this single brought elements of all my favourite music and combined them into a seminal record that would fill dancefloors all around the world for years and years - even to this day.
A four on the floor stomper with the NRG to cause a Youthquake ! Superb.
This record has also been remixed, re released and messed around with SO MANY TIMES but nothing has ever compared to the original.
