Product Description

Review

Richard Reeves This is the best look I've had of the action on the other side of the door in the White House pressroom. It's great fun to see that they're as bad as journalists are. It also is a smart look at how smart folk define for themselves the critical lines between the truth, and nothing but the truth--and outright lying. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Since starting in 1988 with approval ratings as high as Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton has become the most investigated President since Richard Nixon, with inquiries into Whitewater, and alledged campaign fund-raising abuses and sexual misconduct. Faced with more allegations in 1998, this book reveals the inside workings of Clinton's propaganda machine, and his team of White House "spin doctors".

The revelations in this book are astonishing! My god, you mean to tell me that the president of the United States actually sends people out to talk to the press to put himself in a positive light? You mean to tell me that the white house spokesmen we see on tv aren't telling us everything that's going on? Are you telling me they are concealing things and sometimes even embellishing certain events to avoid negative public opinion. Why, this is outrageous!

Mr. Kurtz, you are a saint for revealing the decietful practices of these scoundrels. The world would have simply continued accepting everything these "spokesmen" were saying at face value if you had not written your invaluably enlightening book. And please keep appearing on my tv everyday and writing more books to talk about the excessive punditry going on these days.

Kurtz provides the reader with wonderful insight into the spinning of Mike McCurry/Joe Lockhart and company. Though it may be a frightening realization, the White House IS the most powerful entity in the United States if not the entire world. Never again will I watch the evening national news or Lockart on C-Span the same way.

The Man has Sources 3 Mar 1999

Format:Paperback
Howard Kurtz writes a soild interesting book not only on the Clinton Administration but on how this administration has set a course future politicians will follow. I am not a Clinton fan by any stretch but he sure knows how to market the Presidentcy and Kurtz does a great job of exposing some of the detailed activities going on in our White House. Kurtz has some solid inside sources and gives the reader a wonderful view of the spinning of news. Both sides do it but Clinton seems to be a master. Those that complain this is old rehashed data must be following the news with precision. I for one appreciated hearing more details about stories I had heard only the overview of on the nightly news. I won't see the news in the same light again.
