This is a definative album. It's unlikely you've listened to more than a handful of the many tracks here, but if you like the great 60's and early 70's sounds of great funk soul, this is for you.

Some tracks are re-workings, such as 'Hook and Sling' others are simply classics waiting to be discovered, such as the opening track 'Let a Man Do What He Want To Do'. If your musical tastes are cultured, you owe it to yourself to buy this gem. YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED.

Damn, it's hot! 16 Oct 2008
Format:Audio CD
It's a real shame that this has gone out of print. It really should be re-issued togheter
with volume 2. Those of you who are fans of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, are missing
out on some smoking tracks here. You get 6 tracks with Miss Jones, and "Damn it's hot
pt. 1 & 2" sure is something else. Fantastic stuff! Lee Fields "Let A Man Do What He
Wanna Do" is one of his best songs, and in addition to that there are a couple of
instrumentals that groove along like a fox with chickengrease on his mind!

Damn! It`s hot! 15 Nov 2005
By Dr. Louis Cochs - Published on Amazon.com

There`s lots and lots of funk collections out there, but this one rates among the best. I would put it one step below "New Orleans Funk" on Soul Jazz Records, an album of equally high standard. Sharon Jones - what can I say - she is one funky, ferocious mama! I haven`t heard or bought the much talked about Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings albums yet, but when I do, I`m gonna get dressed up, juiced up and shake my tail like an alligatooor in heat!

A MASTERPIECE COLLECTION OF HEAVY HEAVY FUNK! 29 Mar 2000
By rekkedhog - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a collection of now out of print 45s issued by Desco Records. It is a great mix of soulfull vocals and upbeat, very danceable instrumentals. These are modern bands recorded in an analog style (I'm not 100% sure about that) so the sound is just like the pure funky sound of late 1960s/early 1970s rare groove and funk albums. This is really a bargain, considering the 45s sold for $6 each and all sold out in no time at all! Grab this stuff before it's out of print too! Thanks to Desco for keeping it true!
