Product Description

Product Description

When 'Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You' was published, it revealed an unbelievable assortment of faeries, each one more exquisite than the next. Now, in this beautiful companion, readers are offered a detailed in-sight to one particularly prominent and intriguing species of faeries, the Sprites. Because of their easy nature, more and more Sprites have become part of the common household ~ often to the surprise of the people who live there ~ and many have been taken in as pets by those who have developed "the Sight" to see them. Offering guidelines to keeping Sprites healthy and happy by learning how to identify them, feed them, dress them, and house them, this unique book shows these colourful faeries in their full glory.

About the Author

Holly Black spent her early years in a decaying Victorian mansion where her mother fed her a steady diet of ghost stories and faerie tales. An avid collector of rare folklore volumes, spooky dolls, and crazy hats, she lives in West Long Branch, New Jersey, with her husband, Theo. This is her first book. For more information, visit www.blackholly.com. Mary Botham Howitt was born in 1799 in Coleford, England. Originally published in 1829, Mary's best-known work 'The Spider and the Fly' has been enjoyed by generations of readers and has become an age old classical cautionary tale. Mary Howitt died in Rome in 1888. Tony DiTerlizzi's unique and unusal artstyle is the perfect complement to Howitt's classic tale. He lives with his wife in Brooklyn, New York.

SUPERB!!! Any spiderwick fan will be out of their skin when they see this beauty. As usually the book and its illustrations are crafted with amazing detail and skill. They text has it's wonderful humour we've all come to love, and once again you find yourself lost in the world of faeries! The poster is brilliant too! Simply stunning!

I just cant wait for the next set of books, and the movie to be released!!!

All thanks to the amazing T. DiTerlizzi and H. Black! Magicians with words and ink!

4.0 out of 5 stars the only reason it doesn't get five is the price, 26 Oct 2007

(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
My daughter loves the Spiderwick series, and although this is a spin off, rather like a beastiary, so no continuation of the story, it is still a worthy addition to the books. The books are based on the Fieldguide of Arthur Spiderwick, a man who saw fairies and sprites and captured their images and his impressions in a book. The books follow three children who find out about his world and get embroiled in a series of adventures. Low on text and heavy on illustration they are bite sized adventures which are perfect for those children transitioning from picture books to more adult fiction. This book is beautifully drawn and the quality of production is high. The pull out poster is lovely and worth framing, and the book is quirky and compelling. It is rather expensive compared to the rest of the books, but this is probably down to the detail and care of production.
