Product Description

What do you get when you go mucking around with the genetic make-ups of arachnids and aliens? Either a Nobel Prize or a screechingly painful death . The story explores the adventures of several ;too smart for their own good science types, whose experiments with recombinant DNA lead to frightening consequences - namely, a herd of gigantic eight-legged critters with mandibles of steel and an appetite for human blood. As if that isn't enough, it seems that these hungry, hairy harbingers of the apocalypse need human hosts to incubate their young.

5.0 out of 5 stars When will Spider be available on DVD? 3 Jan 2003
Format:VHS Tape
Both my children adore this video so much that I am now trying to obtain it on DVD. My daughter is now 33/4 and my son is 20 months and if I want a few minutes peace I only have to put this enchanting tale on and they are gripped. My son moans when one comes to an end but he now knows there is another to follow. Marvellously simple animation and very catchy tunes especially PANDA both my kids can do the PANDA dance. BUY IT

4.0 out of 5 stars Catchy songs, and nicely animated. 23 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
This is a lovely video for both my 3 year old and 5 year old and I also caught my mother singing the songs too. The animation is lovely - especially Spider's expressions. Well worth the money as the boys have watched it about 20 times aready. Have to admit to being almost word perfect myself!

A charming video about a small boy befriending a spider. Suitable from birth, as the whole story is told by a series of delightful tunes. Our collicky newborn was soothed to sleep by the music, and as she grew older started to watch the video. Singing the well known tunes at night or in the car provided peace! Now our little girl is 2, the video is a firm favourite that she sings along to. We have just discovered that there is a cassette available ...

3.0 out of 5 stars Spiders! Fun but awful CGI... 31 Dec 2010
Format:DVD
Well.... Its an entertaining film. In comparison to other B movies I have reviewed its much better than Piranha II - Flying Killers [DVD] [1981] but not as entertaining as Hood of the Living Dead [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC].

This film is very entertaining but it has lost stars mainly for the CGI. It looks awful at times other effects look great.

This may contain a few spoilers...

So basically the spiders are taken into space to be injected with X... I spent half the film asking why? why take spiders into space to inject with X when you had a perfectly good underground military base? Well it turns out X is alien DNA and ummmm in lower gravity it was more likely to work or something equally silly. Now the question is why? Well to create a bio weapon! Why not? Giant spiders = amazing bio weapon and after they have eaten your enemy, you only have to deal with a great number of giant spiders that are nearly unstoppable. It seems to borrow quite a bit from Aliens, which is not a bad thing as I love the alien movies and alien rip offs. Carnosaur 2 [DVD] [1994] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] being one of the best rip off of Aliens I have ever seen.

Now when the spider kills and eats, it grows bigger and its off spring are larger... Now this eventually leads to a giant spider attacking a city. Now this is a weakness of the film, if they had not attempted this, we could have had a better funded CGI in the underground base.

3.0 out of 5 stars VERY entertaining! A guilty pleasure. 20 Dec 2002
By A Customer
Format:DVD
It's not art but it is FUN. The video version of junk food - you know it's bad but you still indulge. Non-stop FX, some very good, some not but relentless in number and ambition. How they got so much for the budget is quite an achievement. How it got a 15 certificate in the UK is also a surprise as the violence levels are high. It's a 50's throwback film, pretty plotless but very much a thrill ride. If you like pure monster fun, rampaging creatures and not much else then give it a go. Bit of a bargain at this sort of price. Picture quality is good, better than VHS by far and sound is clear. Remember it's for FUN nothing more and really doesn't try to be.

Spider, has a kind of Simon and Garfunkel folky soundtrack, and is a cartoon that always makes me smile!!! Children can enjy the funny stuff, and also learn that spiders are not something to be afraid of (in the UK that is!, you Aussies may not feel the same about the redback!) I feel this is the greatest cartoon series for a long time, and we watch it here over and over!

Francis, 25 going on 7, hee hee.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you like cheesy movies, don't miss this!. 16 Nov 2008
Format:DVD
The acting was not that bad, not great either but still good! The Plot A DNA experiment on a rare breed of spider is taking place on a NASA space shuttle, when a freak meteor shower engulfs the shuttle, causing everything to go horribly wrong. One survivor is found on the ship and watched over in a secret location deep in the California desert. The problem continues, as the survivor isn't alone, as another deadly spiders climbs out of him and goes on a rampage around the ship. Curious reporter Marci Eyre (Parrilla) must now survive, escape and warn everyone before the spider reaches outside the desert.

Most scenes worked very well and some scene was laughable! But I still had fun time watching this movie and what I really liked was the gory deaths in this movie were great. If you like cheesy movies, don't miss this!.

5.0 out of 5 stars The video for all ages 25 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Format:VHS Tape
Spider has been a favourite in my family since it was first released. My eldest grandchildren loved it and now the youngest grandchild (aged one) can't see enough of it. She dances to the music and appears to know all of the thirteen episodes. As her grandparents we find it nostalgic (it takes us back to less complicated days) and reminds us that once upon a time children were children. We find ourselves singing along the songs, it is absolutely marvellous and we are trying to obtain another copy so that we can always have it at our home, but a second copy can also be kept. Why don't we get videos like this any more.
