Unrelated to the original (and gorier) Spiders, Spiders 2 lacks the things that made the original such good fun. It moves along at a pedestrian pace, with the plot being revealed slowly in layers as if you're peeling a very big onion. Unfortunately this means that it takes what seems like a lifetime to reach the blood and carnage, which when it does finally arrive will leave you rolling on the floor laughing. It's not horrific and I'd imagine the only people that could possibly find it scary would be diehard arachnaphobes. That's not to say it isn't fun. The story may well move along slowly and take a while to hit the action gas pedal, but you know all the way that there's something dodgy going on (you'd hardly need to be a brain surgeon to work that one out though) and at least they're attempting something more than outright blood'n'guts and trying to tell a story, albeit a totally ridiculous one.
The Spider effects are mainly CGI, but don't expect anything as good as the rather lame attempts they made in the first film, the digital effects are actually worse in the sequel than they were last time. Long shots of giant spiders crawling around on a massive cargo freighter look hysterical, and are recycled time and time again throughout the film, giving it that ultra sweet drive-in feel that so few films manage to capture these days.
Most of the cast are OK, but the standout is Richard Moll as the evil scientist with a rather nifty sub-Vincent Price turn - he's so good at being bad he makes you want to hiss every time he wanders onscreen.

All in all it's a reasonable film. It's not as much fun as the original, but that's only due to a pace that allows the filmmakers to build a story rather than go for all out action from the off. At least it doesn't try to recycle the story and characters from the previous eight legged outing.

I will start of with the plot Jason and Alexandra 'Alex', a close couple, loose their sail yacht in a storm and are grateful to get picked up by Captain Jim Bigelow's commercial carrier. Suspicous about the rough treatment and injections given by ship's doctor Gerbac which make the strong man faint, and realizing the ship is improbably empty and the radio not broke as the crew claims, Jason starts snooping around and finds human bodies on meat hooks, but even Alex thinks he's just hallucinating.

Alas while sane Jason is restrained for his 'paranoia', the real madmen are the doc's genetic experiment outfit, who abuse their human captives as live incubators for a giant spider's eggs.

I really liked first movie but this has got to be one of the worst sequel ever to made, not scary, not gory and So BORING! This movie was so Boring that I was watching the clock more then the movie. Don't waste your time on this movie.

I'd like to start by saying this film really isn't the best out there. The first is brilliant with great effects, but this just doesn't make the grade for me. The spiders emerging differs from the first film and looks like the Alien scene, and the ending where the biggest spider gets blown up really doesn't build any tension. The spiders looks and sizes differ, and you don't even find out where they get the god damn giant spider in the first place. But I must say it has good acting and a great story line, but if they need to be backed up by the effects and blood, sorry, but its on its own.
