Product Description

Product Description

The explosive tale of Marvel Comics' crime-fighting superhero... Spider-Man.

Book Description

It begins with an orphan named Peter Parker, raised by his beloved Aunt May and Uncle Ben in Queens, New York. A quiet student, he works diligently at his studies and pines for the beautiful Mary Jane Watson. But this ordinary teenage boy is about to have his life turned upside down, when he is bitten by a genetically altered spider. Suddenly, he finds himself in possession of spectacular powers. He is now and forever Spider-Man! Follow Spider-Man's action-packed journey, from his struggle to harness the extraordinary gifts that will prove to be both blessing and curse, to his fight to save innocent lives while the media tears him to pieces. It all leads to the dramatic battle high above the city streets, where the webslinger faces his archnemesis, the madman known as the Green Goblin. While the city watches breathlessly, Spider-Man confronts his greatest challenge, and the Goblin puts Peter Parker's vow to fight crime to the ultimate test.... Based on the original screenplay by David Koepp. Based on the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

As a fan since the sixties I knew that essentially I would be reading a 40-year-old story of Spider-man's origins retold for today's world and I cannot fault it for that. Okay, some liberty has been taken; his web-shooters are now biological and not mechanical! but after the last god-awful attempts at bringing Spidey to the big screen I am willing to accept a little poetic licence.

The book is extremely well written with a great deal of thought given to characterisation, I found myself being thoroughly entertained in a story paced with humour and little in-jokes that make it a delightful read that you will definitely not be able to put down. Peter David has done his homework and as I read the book I was pleased with the small glimpses of Spider-man history that gave it a little nostalgia. [True believers will not overlook Jonah's confession as seen in ASM#10] NUFF SAID.

As we already know the SM story I cannot think of a single reason why you should not read this novel before seeing the movie. You will get an insight into the thoughts of each scene where constraints on time limit what can realistically be done. This book is a great read that would leave you wanting more and I hope Peter David will continue to write SM stories like this for us to enjoy.

this book is a brilliant adaptation of the film. It really involves the reader, shedding light on some of the film's murkier moments, and then makes you want to see the film again.
Peter David leaves us hungry for more, desperate to find out what happens in the relationship between Peter and MJ.
the only problem i found with this book, is that, no matter how hard i tried to make it last, the pages seemed to fly by!

If you've seen the film - you'll find plenty of surprises in this 'novelisation' of the screenplay - A glimpse into Peter's childhood when he first meets Aunt May, more teenage angst, Peter's diary giving a running commentary - much more fun! I heartily recommend this to all Spider-Man fans.
