Book Description

1 Oct 2007
"The dangerous thing about spider light is that it hides things - things you never knew existed. But once you have seen those things, you can never afterwards forget them ..." The sleepy market town of Amberwood seems to offer peace and anonymity after a shattering and all-too-public tragedy in Antonia Weston's past. But as she struggles to re-build her life, she becomes increasingly fascinated by the macabre history surrounding her: the disused watermill, Twygrist, with its brooding darkness, and the now-vanished Latchkill Asylum where, a hundred years ago, the unfortunate inmates suffered gruesome fates. But Antonia's fascination with the linked histories of Latchkill and Twygrist has alerted someone from her own past. Someone who knows all about Twygrist's darkness. Someone prepared to use that knowledge to the most horrific effect ...

5.0 out of 5 stars another Sarah Rayne gem 30 April 2011

I love Sarah Raynes books and this one is no exception, it has three stories going on the past and the present, and the the one in the middle , there is some really scarey parts and I found it very hard to put down. I do not write reviews that give away the plot as I really do think this spoils the book for people. If you like books with twists ,turns , and haunting stories then I think you willenjoy this book, Sarah Rayne writes these sort of books with superb skill.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unpleasant 8 May 2010
By FictionFan TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having read the blurb and reviews of this book I was expecting a suspense thriller with a historical dimension, perhaps in the vein of Val McDermid etc. Unfortunately this book did not live up to it's billing at all. The author seemed obsessed with describing as many different types of rape and degradation as she could squeeze in and I struggled unsuccessfully to find any merit in the plot or characterisation. I did not find the book either thrilling or suspenseful - in fact, I found it a deeply unpleasant read that left a very bad taste. One to avoid.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great night time page turner 20 April 2013
By reebies
Format:Kindle Edition
The story, set over different eras, combines history and terror, which culminates in new twists that have kept me captive and turning it's pages. Beautifully written and descriptive, the writing conjures up visualisations of the characters in precise detail. This book has sparked an interest to read more from this author.
