Lets get it straight from the start flat panel speaker technology at this price in this form factor is not going to be hi-fi. However you can a very portable speaker with pretty reasonable quality. To my ears the speaker sounds better than most laptop speakers, on par with mid to low end PC speakers. Bass isn't fantastic but it gives a pretty reasonable volume without distortion.
The case won't fit very thick CD or MP3 players inside, however the leaves are removable letting you get thicker players in. This makes it great for iPods and the like that you maybe want to take to a beach or somewhere else and have an all in one speaker set.
Overall I love this, it plays music at good enough quality and I feel its more than sturdy enough to throw into any bag with my iRiver inside it.

Which is what you'd expect from TDK - this is a mono speaker , but it still sounds good , and is ideal for portable use - you can store a few cd's in it , and it can also be plugged into your mp3 player , ipod or iphone - it used to cost about twice this price , so Amazon are offering a good bargain here.
I was fed up with carrying a large cd player around for dancing group practice sessions, so thought I would try this. Linked up to a personal cd player (yes they are still around!) this is ideal for small group lessons. We dance in a local pub's function room, and this was, surprisingly, loud enough.
So nice not to have to carry so much heavy stuff, would reccommend this.
