Product Description

Ten short story of fantasy, edited by Rayne Hall.

The authors of these ten tales have spun yarns based on the premise that magic is real, but it requires skill to harness its force, and abuse brings danger. Suspend your disbelief, and find out what happens when people use magic to gain power, healing, wisdom or love.

Some stories take place in fantasy lands, others in the world you know. Some are short, others long; some are funny, others poignant; some aim to entertain, others to make you think. Each author has a different vision of magic, a different way of telling a story, and a different writing style. See which of them resonate with you.

Read about wizardry, witchcraft and sorcery. Let the stories guide you into worlds where magic is real, and enjoy the enchantment.

1. SYSTEM, MAGIC, SPIRIT by T.D. Edge
Will Ambrose betray his magic system just to save an idiot prince?

2. OBSESSION by Pamela Turner

3. LADY BARD by Cherie Reich

4. THE FINAL SPARK by CJ Burright

6. BARNABAS by Jeff Hargett

7. BY YOUR OWN FREE WILL by Rayne Hall

8. A MAGICAL MELODY by Ciara Ballintyne
In a world where magic is in the music, Avram must settle the score before it's too late.

9. BRAINS, SEX OR MONEY? by Tara Maya
What would you choose?

10. THE WHITE RAVEN'S FEATHER by David D. Levine
Ibude is a warm-weather wizard held hostage in a frozen land, but his troubles can still get worse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ten Magical Tales 25 Nov 2012

I'm a fan of magic as well as the Ten Tales Anthologies by Rayne Hall and this latest one doesn't disappoint.

Barnabas, a down to earth tale set in a magic store in the 1960's was my favorite. It wasn't flashy and told an unpretentious story with a clear-cut message. I could feel the desperation of the main characters in both Obsession and By Your Own Free Will. The climax in Obsession happens on October 13, a date I hold dear, which was a fun surprise.

While the aforementioned may have stood out a bit for me, all the stories were well written and took me from times long ago to a modern era carnival. The stories aren't gory or terrifying. A couple are a little creepy, some have a nice twist at the end (which I love), and I enjoyed them all.
4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining stories with interesting characters 10 Nov 2012

I fully recommend this book. There's variety for different tastes. Stories like System, Magic and Spirit; Obsession, By Your Free Will and Barnabas will leave you thinking hard. They were my favorite because the character stuck with me for hours after putting the book aside. By Your Free Will is, to my personal opinion, a master piece in execution, in the way it draws you into the story and the fantastic message it delivers. I loved it. Obsession is delightfully creepy and Barnabas has an ending worth of the Twilight Zone. Brain, Sex or Money is short but very funny. The White Raven's Feather is extremely compelling. The Lady Bard is sweet as the stories from childhood. I found the starts of a Magical Melody and the Last Spark a little slow but they certainly got me when action came. The only one that wasn't my cup of tea was St Jake of the Fun House but still I consider nine out of ten is an excellent bargain. And I was very pleased with the bonus reading as well.
