'Spelling Essentials' provides a perfect platform from which to learn the building blocks of effective spelling and help to avoid the potential pitfalls. Each spelling rule is presented clearly and immediately followed by a variety of structured practice exercises, which are so accessible they give students confidence in applying the skills learnt whatever their ability or age. Teachers will find this book an excellent addition to their resources and parents will find it a sensible investment in their childrens educational future. In fact, anyone who needs to revisit, refresh or revitilise their spelling skills will find this book invaluable.

I have wasted my money on various spelling books previously, and this has been the best one I have found so far.
It gives examples and asks you to do various exercises, which are fun and enjoyable to do.
I do this with my 13 yr old who has trouble with spelling.
I would say it is suitable for upper primary to lower secondary age range or even some adults who need to brush up, we really enjoy doing this book together.

I teach literacy to adults and the students often ask me to recommend a book for independent work on spelling. From now on, this is the book I will recommend. I have access to numerous spelling books, all of which have their strengths and weaknesses. This one, however, is so clearly set out, comprehensive and helpful, with plenty of opportunities for practice and hints for learning, that I think it covers all the main requirements. In addition, its pages are attractive and uncluttered, which, in my opinion, are essential features of a good self-teaching book. If you can only have one book on spelling, then this is the one.
