This was not entirely what I expected upon first picking it up. From the title I imagined the book would be a typical fantasy book. However, this novel read more like a historical novel with elements of fantasy than a strictly fantasy novel. For me the story started slowly, the intial chapter didn't really grab my attention, but after that the story became much more interesting and involving.

Spellbound starts in Norway in 1581 where a young women named Silje, her entire family wiped out by the plague, finds and raises two orphans. The tale revolves around Silje, her struggles, and her involvement with the mystical ice people after a chance meeting with one man.

An interesting start to a series with plenty of potential. I for one look forward to the next book.

Spellbound! 9 July 2008
Format:Paperback
I have read all of Margits 180 + books in norwegian. Spellbound, the first book in The Legend of the Ice People, is the start of a colossal saga. Total 47 titles.
I find the english translation very good.

Beware that this is not ordinary fantasy. More historic, epic, romance and supernatural, but there is a fantasy feel to the books, and more as the series develops. And for the supernatural... She has been careful with this in the first books, but certainly makes up for that later! And it is the distinct supernatural earthy feeling that for me makes these books stand out from all those other boring sagas and romantic novels.

Great book! 30 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
I first read Spellbound 4 years ago and fell in love with the series. When I found out it was being translated to english (i'm icelandic) I was thrilled for all the people who are now able to read the books. I really love the books because it's not your typical love/fantasy story. You learn a lot about history and how Europe changed through the ages.
I have now just finished reading book no. 18 and waiting for the next one, there are 47 books in the series so you have got a lot to look forward to!!
