Elvis looks sleek and cool in Speedway, a decided improvement over the pasty indifference he displayed in his middle-era range of pictures. The movie itself is standard Presley formula, with the King again playing a race-car driver, this time in trouble with an IRS agent (Nancy Sinatra) over his taxes. (There's even a production number about taxes. Argggh.) On the plus side, a bunch of scenes are set in the Hangout, a Pulp Fiction-esque diner with booths shaped like cars and lots of dancers doing the frug. Nancy sings a cool-weird Lee Hazlewood tune, "Your Groovy Self," which should have been picked up by the Austin Powers folks. The plot reflects Elvis's real-life penchant for giving money and cars away, although it's mostly predatory manager Bill Bixby who causes the financial problems. As ho-hum as this outing is, you'll probably want one of Elvis's racing-stripe windbreakers after you see it. --Robert Horton

A most enjoyable if typical Elvis Presley film of its day. The film is entertaining and though it contained less memorable Elvis material was none the less light hearted fun. The product arrived promptly in excellent condition.

This was bought as a present for an Elvis fan and from what I can gather it was enjoyable to watch - personally I could only suffer in silence It's not one of his better films and does not have very many stand out songs - Elvis looked like he was just going through the motions,as if to say get this one done and let's churn out the next! Buy it if you're a fan or you know someone who is, but for me I'd recommend GI Blues or Blue Hawaii or better yet the 68 comeback special.

Speedway [DVD] As I have said before, the reproduction is excellent, super fast delivery, price, Amazon have all this tied down add before and after courtesy and I hope that Amazon go on for many years at this level. I know staying a number one is hard, but Amazon appear to cruise at number one and their staff also seem to enjoy the exalted position. As before the DVD was and is to compliment my collection of Elvis movies and performances. Boredom is a word of the past, enjoyment is the now word and the future word. Customer Care and Courtesy is a programme that a lot more Companies should adopt, that way even if the customer has to pay a premium for the product, he/she knows that it is the best that they can afford.
