This looked a lot my old Kemptson Competition Pro I had in the 1980s and so I bought it to play some old games on the various emulators that are available on the pc. The main difference between this one and my old one is that the Speedlink has very tactile clicking micro-switches when you press the buttons and move the stick. The stick requires some getting used to because it needs noticeable effort to move in each direction. My old one had the leaf switches which were virtually indestructible in normal use and required less effort to move (and no clicking). The speedlink has a robust build, but micro-switches are not infallible. It also has 2 extra small triangle buttons situated between the stick and the main buttons, plus an autofire switch on the back.
I understand that later Competition Pro models were made with this micro-switch type, however, in the days of the Spectrum, Amstrad, Atari St and the early Commodore64 it was the leaf-switch type and the one I prefer.
Lastly, the games come on cd with a nice c64 emulator that has all the games listed and you just select the one you want. I couldn't get the Speedlink to work with a lot of the games, even though you can see the directional buttons light up on the display as you move them. I was never familiar with the original C64 so it may require in-game configuration, so its not exactly plug and play. I tried playing Sensible Soccer on an Atari emulator and noticed that the down-right diagonal wasnt working every time. This is why I dislike the micro-switch type.
