Product Description

Review

"I thoroughly enjoyed reading this excellent book and would heartily recommend it … .As well as containing its fair share of ‘flashes and bangs’ there are also a good selection of more thoughtful and insightful demonstrations." (The Higher Education Academy Physical Sciences Centre, December 2008)

"This is a fascinating book and would be a good addition to the library, and perhaps a student chemistry prize." (SSR School Science Review, March 2008)

"Herbert Roesky has done us and the international chemistry community a big favor by translating his latest contribution in this area into English." (Angewandte Chemie International Edition, January 2008)

Product Description

Written by the author of the award–winning Chemische Kabinettstücke this book demonstrates over 80 enjoyable, impressive and sometimes almost unbelievable chemical experiments for the classroom, lecture hall or home. All the experiments are explained in full, and have been tested several times such that their successful reproduction is guaranteed.

Grouped into several cycles—water, the color blue, the color red, soles, and self–organization—the topics are perfect for experimental lectures or school projects. Detailed illustrations and the lively writing style make this book equally attractive to readers interested in chemistry, even if they are unable to perform the experiments.

amazing 31 Mar 2008
By Luca Salvi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book is an amazing collection of experiments that are both easy to perform and appealing for non chemists. It's one of those book that can foster interest in kids who are about to make their minds in their education pathway.

Good try, but 11 Feb 2009
By Peter Stilbs - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The foreword by Nobel Prize winner Olah is just a half page. The rest is a list of experiments one can make at the undergraduate level. Most seem spectacular - others not. Not all of them seem OK for a 50+ person auditorium. The recipies and safety instructions seem well made, and each of the experiments is preceeded by some quote by some well- or less-known person. Some of these are funny. I would have liked more pictures, and a better book layout.

Using these experiments outside a lab 21 Jan 2009
By Mr. Philip Ticehurst - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Spectacular Chemical Experiments

Most of these experiments require access to a well stocked chemical laboratory. That aside, there are very adequate descriptions of how to do the experiments and good safety information. The quotations and histories around each experiment are quite entertaining in their own right and justifies the cost of the buying the book (even if you never get around to making "detonating gas" or using luminol)
