Most Helpful Customer Reviews

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful By G. D. Tennant on 3 July 2007
Format: Paperback
An excellent book that delivers exactly what is promised in the title: a comprehensive and detailed account of the law in the UK as it relates to special educational needs. It has separate chapters for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland where necessary, making good use of case law to illustrate the general points it makes.

As an educationalist rather a lawyer I found the book a somewhat heavy read, but do not consider this to be a criticism. For any lawyer involved in SEN issues, any lay member of SEN and disability tribunals, any LA officer involved with SEN, it is essential reading - or at least, to be aware of the contents to be able to refer to it when necessary. For those involved in day-to-day work with children with SEN, there are, I think, more immediately accessible and helpful books to use - but should you ever be in the position of needing to know exactly what the law says, start with this book.
