"'bloody good read' New Woman"

Product Description

Ally is happy married to Luke. But she and her sister Miranda couldn't be more different. While Ally has four children and a cosy home life, Miranda is child-free, married to a millionaire and lives in a show home that wouldn't be out of place in the pages of House & Garden. Ally gave up trying to compete years ago. But she is shocked when Miranda asks her if she'll help provide the one thing that is missing from her perfect life: a baby. Ally has every sympathy for Miranda's infertility problems, but can she really have a baby and hand it over to someone else? Especially if that someone else is Miranda.

Format:Paperback
The prolific Zoe Barnes brings us another rip-roaring read, this one concerns two sisters, Ally and Miranda, the former being a married Mum-of- two and the latter, a childless former supermodel. The crux of the plot is that Miranda cannot bear children and her sister can, hence the need to ask her sister to make a huge sacrifice - to carry her brother-in-law's child.

The central characters were well drawn and the 'will they/won't they' flirtation is handled well, although if you've read any other of the author's books, you'll guess how it ends. I did think the character of Zee was particularly rounded and I'm glad the author didn't follow her ususal 'single mum with a heart of gold' storyline!'

Overall, a good read and provides some good food for thought about the subject of surrogacy.

I nearly stopped reading this book after the first few pages as the characters seemed so stereotyped and I hated the smug earth mother Ali. I persisted and the middle of the book was better written with the characters showing more depth and the surrogacy angle well researched. The end resorted to cliche characters of goodies and baddies again though and got quite sacchariney, with Ali returning to smug "best mother in the world" mode.

A wonderful read 26 April 2009
Format:Paperback
I liked the sound of the subject this story covered and so bought it. This book covers what can be a very sensitive in a very funny and gentle way covering all problems that come with surrogacy. But the real pull of this book is how the characters grow and change during the surrogacy. A great book.
