    A good bow saw 15 Oct 2010
Spear and Jackson are generally associated with very good quality garden products & tools, and this bow saw is no exception.

    The plus points:

    1. It's got a very comfortable grip, meaning your hand doesn't get battered during spells of repeated sawing.

    2. It is indeed razor sharp, much like its name suggests. Treat it well and it will stay that way

    3. It's decent value for money - far cheaper here on Amazon than it would be in in other well known chains.

    The minus points:

    1. There aren't really any, except to say this is quite large, so if you are planning on working in limited space, get the smaller option

I purchased this bowsaw to replace an old one which had done sterling service for 30 or 40 years. It is good enough for my needs but the blade is thinner and more flexible than the old one and more difficult to cut with. OK for occasional use.

    Potentially dangerous 15 Mar 2012
    By Phil
This saw can be made to work really well at what it is intended for. BUT the design is seriously lacking in one respect - the rivet holding the front end of the blade is VERY flimsy. At the very first tensioning of the blade, using the lever at the other end, the rivet failed and the blade flew out. Although I was lucky, in that the blade didn't hit me, this COULD have caused a very serious injury. I have now replaced the rivet with a steel nut and bolt. As supplied, this saw is potentially lethal.
