The extra length would help the infirm, but it is also good for the able bodied - reach to the the back of a bed or the bottom of a deep hole, extract compost from a compost bin, and move less often when kneeling to weed.
It's strong, but it could break if you used all your force to lever something - it's not a crow bar!
Quality seems ok and I've only used it twice up to now and kept it dry. I will see how it performs after it's got wet once or twice.
Also a little concerned that on arrival there seemed to be a hint of rust on the stainless steel stamp mark....curious.
