5.0 out of 5 stars It Might as Well Be Spring, 24 Aug 2003
By Miss Julie Jordan (London, England) - See all my reviews
I am only 15, but Shirley Jones has been my all time heroine ever since I saw her in "Carousel." This collection of songs (mostly duets with her husband Jack Cassidy, who she fell in love with during the European tour of "Oklahoma!") mainly come from operettas and early musical comedies, the composers including Jerome Kern, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin. The oldest song, "Kiss Me Again" is almost 100 years old now, but they are all as lovely and fresh as ever. They are perfect for Shirley's beautiful, clear soprano voice. My highlights are the duets "You are Love" from "Show Boat," "Cheek to Cheek" from "Top Hat" and Shirley's solo, the beautiful ballad "It Might as Well be Spring" from "State Fair." If you liked Shirley's singing in "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel," you'll love this. This album is a gem.
