Fiendish plotting to test even the most able adventurers, 20 Jan 2001
This review is from: The Speaker in Dreams (Dungeons & Dragons: Adventure) (Paperback)
This adventure will encourage characters away from the usual 'kill anything that moves' mentality. It has enough twists and turns to keep everyone guessing right up to the final encounter. It's worth 4 stars as it stands but in conjunction with W0C's online enhancement it should get 5. This adds a whole new dimension and a whole lot more colour to proceedings and saves a massive amount of time when prepping bought adventures like this. No linear plots here - we like. We like a lot.
Shame they'll need to roll up new characters by the end though.

Powerful adventure - lots of surprises., 28 Oct 2006
This review is from: The Speaker in Dreams (Dungeons & Dragons: Adventure) (Paperback)
The structure of this adventure makes for a surprising few days indeed for the party. The adventure flowchart summarises the potential encounters very neatly. The encounters lead the party through several encounters rapidly so the poterntial to re-memorise spells is limited making several of the mid-level encounters very challenging and testing the limits of the party. The adventure is meant to be for 5th level players which is slightly less than I'd recommend unless the party is ready to lose a few of their companions!
Some of our party died part way through which made the rest of the party thirsty for vengance against the main villain. Much of the adventure needed to be fleshed out fully to make the seperate encounters realistically linked.
There is also a lot of magic available to the NPC's, especially for such a small town.
The main villain is the main weakness of the adventure as for an intelligent being, he could have been much subtler in his involvement throught the adventure and certainly could have particiapated in some earlier encounters to deter the adventures.
Descriptions of encounters and areas are well written.
Overall an excellent adventure for the players and good fun as a DM.

Amazing adventure,, 19 Jan 2001
This review is from: The Speaker in Dreams (Dungeons & Dragons: Adventure) (Paperback)
is well written and balanced. Good plot, great development of NPC and a challange not for PC who like "rough and tumble" with a splash of intelligence. I raccomand this for everybody.
