4.0 out of 5 stars Trendy beatdowns 28 Feb 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This album is decent. It's still Emmure, same sound just a bit different on the experimental side but there are still plenty of chunky breakdowns, rapcore gang chants, and they've also added a little bit of dubstep so the kids can get thier groove on. To be honest, this album works, so not bad for a 5th release from the Emmure boys, just what will they come up with next!?
Buy the CD, support the band.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Respect Issue Part 2 9 Mar 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's an okay album, but no way near the brilliance of Goodbye to the Gallows and Felony. The album starts off very promising, Children of the Cybertron is a kickass intro, Area 64-66 has some great breakdowns, Dogs Get Put Down has to be the best song on this album, and Demons With Ryu is also pretty good.

However, after that, the album seems to die and slowly becomes the aural equivalent of drowning in tar. It kinda lacks momentum after Demons With Ryu and just sounds generic and boring. Another criticism would be that the lyrics aren't half as good as previous albums, even The Respect Issue.

It has some good tracks though. It's just not the brilliance Emmure promiced.

4.0 out of 5 stars meh. 14 May 2011
Format:Audio CD
I was expecting something more like Felony when I heard Emmure were making a new album. SOTD is just a bit, well, average compared with Felony and GTTG. Palmeri has made the lyrics all gangster-y which is a bit cringeworthy sometimes (eg "I stay bangin', I stay strapped"), but it's all just harmless fun, isn't it? Isn't it?! Anyway, the guitar riffs are all Emmurey with bends and dissonance in every bar and the breakdownz are still song-length, and I think they've taken more of the GTTG atmosphere than they did with Felony. There's a bit of Respect Issue somewhere in there as well but that's probably not a good thing. The massive runtime is due to there being 15 tracks, which is ridiculous. Luckily they're still good at the end, although the last track is just Palmeri saying "we're all gonna die" and a half-hearted riff which I reckon is a poorly executed mirroring of Tactical Nuke on Wormwood. But it probably isn't what Emmure had in mind. SOTD is okay, but if you don't own any of Emmure's albums, I'd a) listen to them first and b) buy either Felony or Goodbye to the Gallows instead.
