balanced, serene and beautiful

it's an indisputable fact that guitarist john abercrombie and pianist marc copland are the master virtuoso players in their respective instruments and also master composers in mainstream jazz. as a duo, they're showing again their skills in both area "in a silent and balanced way", this time.
solos of two master players in each song is very balanced. regarding all tracks, three copland compositions (highligt is the title song "speak to me", other two are "falling again" and "talking blues), three from abercrombie (opening track "left behind", "seven" and "so long") and three standards ("if i should lose you", "witchraft" and coleman's "blues connotation") make the choice of tunes also balanced...
structure of almost all compositons and the way abercombie and copland are playin them make you feel calm and serene throughout the album, except the short interpretation of coleman tune. it's a very beautiful album that i can recommend easily...

I had the pleasure of seeing this duo play several years ago at a small, hip venue in Baltimore called An die musik. The place held about 40 people who were seated in vintage upholstered arm chairs. Very cool. Once again these two extraordinary musicians have minted a masterpiece. Their collaborations are on the same level as those of two of the greatest muscians in jazz history, Jim Hall and Bill Evans. While Abercrombie's recordings with another great jazz pianist, Andy Laverne are has significant, I prefer those with Copland. They're more "edgey". Similar to the difference between Hall and Evans' "Under Current" vs "Intermodulations". I've been following John Abercrombie since the 70's and on that sad day when Jim Hall shakes this mortal coil, he will sadly accept the crown as the greatest living jazz guitarist. Are you convinced enough to buy this cd yet? You should be. Please wrap your ears around this one.
