Product Description

Product Description

The first two series plus the prequel spin-off of the US drama which follows life in and around the brutal environs of Ancient Rome's gladiatorial arenas. 'Spartacus - Blood and Sand' (2010) follows Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) as he is torn from his wife and thrust into the bloody and merciless world of the arena. 'Spartacus - Gods of the Arena' (2011) acts as the prequel to the first series and focuses on the gladiatorial hero who preceded Spartacus, Gannicus (Dustin Clare), and his ambitious owner, Batiatus (John Hannah). 'Spartacus - Vengeance' (2012) follows on from the events of the initial series and stars Liam McIntyre as Spartacus, who is now the leader of an armed slave rebellion that threatens the very fabric of the Roman Empire.

The legend of the rebel slave.
Spatacus is brought to gory, lusty life in this shamelessly OTT cable series.
Created by Smallville/Angel producer Steven S DeKnight, Blood and sand follows titular warrior Andy Whitefield as he messily dispatches of his foe in the arina and plots the downfall of his captors including his mater's power hungry wife (lucy Lawless). shot in the same saturated slow-mo dismemberment as 300, and featuring frequent bouts of flesh-rending and skin baring. Gods of the Arena is a six part prequel made due to the star Andy Whitfield at the time being taken ill and then sadly loosing his battle with cancer and dieing in August 2011, but although the series is shorter the battles are typical bloody and the plot is just as good, and is a fitting addition to the original series.
Spartacus Vengeance is the true sequel to Blood and Sand and although having Liam McIntyre replace Andy Whitfield is jarring at first after a few episodes he fits into the role well and anyway you'll be too blood soaked to give a damn. This second season contains all the blood soaked action, bare flesh, villainy and heroism that has come to distinguish this series. The tale of Spartacus is epic.
All the seasons are brilliantly pulpy but irresistible fun on a epic scale.
This is brilliant over the top comic book TV.

in three simple letters...
O.M.G!!!
There has never been such a TV Series before and to be quite honest, in many ways, for me at least, it even tops Game of Thrones by miles.
We are introduced to the Roman hierarchical way of life where status is everything and low status Romans with aspirations to climb above their station, conduct their daily lives with no thought of the consequences their aspirations exact, especially if the lives touched are those of their slaves. in fact the main characters attempt to manipulate situations to such a degree as to alter consequence and outcomes to suit their ends.

In a nutshell 'Spartacus' is a love story, one mans love for his wife who was taken from him, which drove him to survive to find and free her but ultimately destroy... Hmm destroy is too mild a word, obliterate, annihilate, his oppressors and all who stood between him and his wife which lead to her death.
The plots, twists and turns you really don't see coming, the endearing relationships between the characters which have you on your feet, screaming at the TV, the way they speak! I'm in love with the way they speak, my husband and I have fallen into using that style between ourselves, of course with all the swearing thrown in for authenticity. The epic arena fights! Omgz! I'm actually a very squeamish person but in Spartacus I replay the goriest most gruesome horrible deaths
in the arena scenes over and over and over. Oh I almost forgot about all the erotica, which is far more graphic than you normally find within mainstream TV, but it is actually on par with the other aspects and elements of the series.
Aside from all that, there's Gannicus, Crixus, Oenomaus, Spartacus (played by Andy Whitfield -R.I.

I would give 5 stars for the stories and production itself. But for the disc is quite disappointing compare with US version just only because there's no English subtitle in the last season, Vengeance. The price has dropped for £ 10 since my purchased, may it lower in near future?

Excellent show and crystal clear on blu ray!

I can't write too much or may give away plot issues etc. but I enjoyed some of the twists & turns and underhanded deals that were done, intruige, sex, violence & nudity what more could you ask for!??

Getting this product is very hard In INDIA, Anchor bay is Not operating In India so I ordered at Amazon.UK. US Digibooks are available BUT they are expensive & has BAD Packaging which are prone to scratches. UK packaging is Sturdy. I received it in Perfect Condition :)

Some might think, Spartacus is a cheap soft-core flick but its ABSOLUTELY NOT ! The whole Drama, Betrayal, emotions, actions are Top notch. CGI BLOOD is overwhelming at the 1st season, but it gets better on later season.

Andy's final work will be ALWAYS remembered... HE is LIKE GOD in first season. R.I.P man.

Liam's performance is NOT bad either! Sadly this EPIC series is ended.... :( Love to see see another production like this from Sam raimi, Tapert team !

Admittedly, there is rather a lot of blood and guts but the entire show is highly entertaining. The story is good and loosely follows actual history.
