This is a classic children's book. The adventure happens whilst the adults are distracted, and the children step through the door/mirror that leads to adventure in another world.

The two girls have a very pleasant adventure making hats for the Lord Mayor's parade. They then step back and find their mums are still gossiping over tea, and not missing the children very much! The story is beautifully illustrated and good fun.

I gave my copy away to a friend's four year old daughter who loves it.

I think it's a great story book for girls aged between about 3 and 7.

(in a concept not too dissimilar to that of the Wardrobe and Narnia), two little girls called Ellie and Emma, disappear through a magic mirror at the back of the 'Shiny Button Café' into a world called 'Sparkle Street'.
There they help 'Lizzie Ribbon' enhance lots of hats ready for a grand parade, to be led by the Mayor.
The two young heroines are eager to help, as customers start arriving at the shop...including the mayor, who has something terribly important that needs fixing......quickly!
Lizzie Ribbon to the rescue!

But all this help for everyone else has got her seriously behind with making her own hat special!
Don't worry!
Lizzie is not sad for long, as things take a turn for the better - rather like Cinderella - especially when the call comes for the children to step back through the mirror, to find their Mums STILL chatting in the café, where they had left them!

Colourfully illustrated this is a real girly book - further enhanced by glittery areas and 2 cameo-shaped cut outs (the mirror) - and sure to appeal to those who like the land of make-believe.
Some of the characters featured in Lizzie Ribbon's Hat Shop, such as 'Wizard Stargazer' and 'Rosa Bloom' also appear in the other stories in this sparkly series adding to that familiar feel, and anticipation for when a new title is due.

Text is relatively small and not particularly bold, but is capitalised - in places - FOR EMPHASIS!

Example of text:-

......'Lizzie dropped her scissors. "Ribbons and Bibbons!", she said. "I'm rushed off my feet! EVERYONE wants a hat for the Summer Festival because the Mayor is leading the hat parade in his golden coach!".......'

The pretty package is completed with a removable mini 'pop-up' shop which actually un-sticks from inside the back cover - the simple assembly instructions are behind it!

From the back cover:-

'Sparkle Street - the fun place to meet.
Lizzie Ribbon is too busy to make herself a hat for the big parade. Ribbons and bibbons, whatever will she do? Luckily Ellie and Emma arrive to lend a hand....
Collect all the books to make your own Sparkle Street!'

An excellent price, at Amazon, for a well-paced story with the added bonus of the pull-out hat shop, but a slight negative is that the latter is on the flimsy side for smaller, more impatient hands!
The stand-alone shop, when assembled, stands approx 14 cm high, 7 cm wide, (9 cm allowing for the overhang of the roof), and 4 cm deep. It has a front and a back with small `opening' doors......and is well illustrated but it is hard to see inside!
However, peeping through the open front door you see the shop on the lower level. Peeking through the back oval shaped window, or through the back door (or more likely - up through the bottom!) you can just see the dining-room with a bathroom on the upper floor!

Other titles in the series:-

Sparkle Street: Barnaby Baker's Cake Shop
Sparkle Street: Wizard Stargazer's Magic Shop
Sparkle Street: Rosa Bloom's Flower Shop

Loved by its target audience
This book screams out for a reader aged about 5 who is stereo-typically girly. When I found one she was thrilled and I was delighted with her response. Well worth it.

This book is nicely animated with good colouring and a really pretty sparkly (but subtle) finish to most pages. I thought this is very appealing to this book. Read more
