Spending a year in Spain meant learning the language, quickly! It helped us with verbs and everyday phrases we needed to blend in more with the locals! It was an excellent mixture of verbal exercises and translations which enabled us to converse with our neighbours, on subjects such as the weather, food and being able to understand what they said back to us; here the tapes were invaluable.
Great to dip into for reference and for the many different uses of verbs and their irregularities. We even recommended it to our friends (who also bought copies) and we used it in conjunction with out bi-weekly spanish lessons.
A must for anyone who wants clear and concise explanations.

A few years back, I was holidaying in Spain and asked advice from a local who by a stroke of good luck, had married an English girl.He had visited Blighty and during that visit,checked up on the self teach courses available. He recommended this course to me. Don't know if it was pyschological,(advice from a Spaniard),but I found the course an absolute pleasure and my rate of progress was quick. As a tip, use this in conjunction with Spanish radio,or buy one of the Spanish newspapers and your knowledge will be pretty impressive.Pronunciation was clearly explained.Some of the grammar could be better explained (relative pronouns for example),but I simply researched these online to gain a better understanding.A good aid,and not too boring to digest like some of the more expensive products on the market.

This is the very first book I bought when I began to learn Spanish and it is still the best I've read. It really does deliver what it promises - you really can learn Spanish in three months - but it will prove invaluable long after that initial period. It prioritizes what is taught in an extremely intelligent way, unlike many Spanish text books which alienate the student with jargon and a compulsion to include the words 'indirect object in the pluperfect infinitive' in every other line. This book assumes ignorance but intelligence and has had more to do with my getting Spanish A Level than any of the compulsory text books associated with the course.
