5.0 out of 5 stars Tosco pero tradicional (Crude but traditional) 25 April 2010
By Blake D. Morgan - Published on Amazon.com

After enjoying Fournier's Gran Tarot Esoterico, I wanted to try this bilingual Marseille-style deck with the titles in Spanish and English. However the illustrations are from an older deck than those of Conver or Burdel and perhaps therefore are more crude than those of these decks. The images of the Spanish Tarot are quite similar to those of Jean Dodal's deck, which is also quite old and very hard to find. For this reason I made an effort to accustom myself to such distinct iconography, and now the Spanish Tarot is one of the decks I use most often. I like the card of the winged Empress, but other images, such as the animal on top of the Wheel and the backs of some of the figures' thrones are almost unrecognisable. My partner has a reproduction of Nicholas Conver's Tarot of Marseille published by Heron, which possesses more detailed illustrations. Another beautiful example is the Universal Tarot of Marseille (English and Spanish Edition) from Lo Scarabeo. These are the decks I recommend for those who wish to use a Marseille-style tarot with a more refined and slightly more modern style.
