When it comes to Spanish Guitar, one name easily springs to mind. It is Segovia. This budget priced compilation of recordings has a great deal to offer. It is a very interesting and entertaining release.
The music selection is excellent. There is a good programme of compositions spread over two discs.
The quality of the recordings is not great compared to modern recordings. But it is very good considering the age. Disc one contains music recording in the 1930s and disc two contains recordings from around 1949 and the early 1950s. If you are looking for a recording with crystal clear well balanced sound this is not the recording for you. However if you are looking for a strong repetoir recording of Spanish Guitar music performed by one of the most famous guitarists of all time then this is a good disc to investigate.
Disc one begins with music transcribed from works by J.S. Bach. Then works by Manuel Ponce, Tarrega, Albeniz and Granados. Disc two has music by Villa Lobos, Torroba. Turina, Crespo, Rodrigo, De Falla, Mudarra, Frescobaldi and Sor. Also there are pieces by Castelnuovo Tedesco across both discs.

This is a good budget priced representation of the music of Segovia and the Spanish Guitar.

I bought this as a memento of 30 years passed, when I went to hear Segovia live in Nottingham's Albert Hall. It's for the purist I suppose, but very enjoyable if you like Spanish/Flamenco music, which is excellent and common place in southern Spain where I live

Just the right kind of music for a couple of drinks and tapas with a few friends in the Spanish sun.
