Many great Spanish composers, including Albéniz, Tarrega, Turina, Granados and Rodrigo were inspired by the countryside and folk traditions of their native land. Likewise, several French composers from Bizet to Ravel were influenced by the dances of southern Spain in particular. The captivating 10-CD set 'Spanish Classical Guitar' gathers together music by all these composers and many more that reflects the colour and spirit of Spain.
Alongside composers especially well-known for the guitar, among them Rodrigo and Giuliani, this extensive collection also includes many pieces by less familiar names such as Emilio Serrano, Roland Dyens, Ruperto Chapi and Jesus de Monasterio while the music by non-Spanish composers ranges from Domenico Scarlatti via Paganini and Debussy to Leo Brouwer. The artists featured include the renowned Spanish Art Guitar Quartet, the Andrès Segovia Quartet, London-born Carlos Bonell, Siegfried Behrend, Magdalena Kaltcheva, and Klaus and Rainer Feldmann.
