If, like me, you're not a fan of souless large hotels then this book is for you. Covering all of Spain the accommodation featured ranges from small and cheap to large and costly - and everything in between. What is consistent is that every place (that we stayed anyway) has a WOW factor - that something special that means you won't forget it. And the reviews, although short, attempt to be truthful helping you ensure it's the place for you.

As essential as your passport, 6 May 2005
This review is from: Spain (Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay) (Paperback)
An absolute must for anyone visiting, or even living in Spain, who likes to stay 'somewhere a bit different'. I have stayed in a number of the paradors listed in the book, from the Pyranees to Seville and have not been disappointed.

The absolute essential guide to authentic Spain at its best, 12 July 2007
We have for many years enjoyed travelling in northern France for short mini-breaks or stopovers en route to our final holiday destination and we have found the Alistair Sawday guide an absolute essential. So when we were planning our Andalucian 10 day break in May with our two young girls we knew exactly where to go to find a selection of authentic, affordable fincas and casas where the hospitality is second to none. Our favourite stopover, high up in the Alpujarras, was Casa Rural El Paraje, a derelict finca lovingly restored by a charming dutch couple, Anita Beijer & Walter Michels who have transformed their new home into a chic, "boutique" bed and breakfast stopover. Walter is very talented in the kitchen where he prepares an extremely affordable 15 euro 3 course evening meal whilst Anita, multi-lingual, engages in warm hospitality with her guests. The view from the terrace is phenomenal and stretches miles across the Alpujarras. We just wouldn't have come across these lovely folk without the Alistair Sawday guide.
