Format:Audio CD
Definitely does what it says on the tin - heavy metal with sci-fi lyrics. If this is your thing then this is the album for you. Fans of Ayreon or 80's metal of the Black Sabbath persuasion will feel right at home. This is not a subtle album, which may or may not be a good thing, but it does have bags of energy and enthusiasm, which can only be a good thing. Any lack of originality in the songs is more than made up for by great arrangements, performances and the never less than thrilling Lucassen production. A must have for Ayreon fans and definitely worth a look for any prog-metallers seeking inspiration.

Space Metal is certainly a well chosen name for this album with every song about a Sci-fi film that inspired Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Every song on Space Metal is outstanding whether it be the excellent opener "Set Your Controls" or the epic "Starchild". One thing that certainly stands out on every track is the superb use of keyboards. Space Metal wouldnt be Space Metal without Sci-fi style synthesizers and Star One have them in spades.
The limited edition version of Space Metal is really worth getting hold of. The limited edition contains a second bonus disk which contains 7 tracks (1 of which is a hidden bonus track). The highlight of the bonus disk is without doubt the brilliant cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" which is almost worth the price of the album alone. The packaging is very eye catching too with both CDs being held in a hard cover book.
I really cant recommend Space Metal enough. If you like progressive metal then you will love this.

Excellent music, all themed after sci-fi movies and one cult tv show, but maybe not the one you would expect. Well done and enjoyable played LOUD
