4.0 out of 5 stars Odd but compulsive 16 Aug 2002

You never heard "Wings"? Really?? Then give yourself a treat and hunt this album out. Wings is sort of undefinable. Put it on any turntable and most people would be stumped to come up with the band playing it.
This album dates from latter day HW when for a brief while they were "fronted" by a female vocalist, Bridget Wishart. Not that you'd really notice it here. The vocals are a little buried in the mix, but hey, who cares. This is HW and being buried in the mix is part of the job.
The first three tracks are stand-outs. Images features abrupt changes of direction. Wings - 20pc ofproceeds go to RSPB - is melancholy and haunting. Black Elk Speaks is, however, my favourite. Try shaking your shamanic stuff to that. Rolling thunder provides the backdrop to ancient recordings of Black elk's words. Time to pitch the teepee again..
