That’s the kind of voice Netrebko has . . . She is also a stage animal . . . she is fuelled by sheer talent and instinct . . . I’d take ... Read more in Amazon's Anna Netrebko Store

Of ALL the recorded works of Ms. Netrebko (I owned virtually ALL), this album is but the only one that I could say that I listened to with true satisfaction. Not all tracks are perfect, but generally speaking, this compilation is far better than ANY of her other endeavours, the 'Russian Album' included.
Netrebko's voice IS Slavic. She generally sings in pure tones without much of the Slavic edge, hence was too frequently mistakened to be a 'bel canto' voice.
Compare her with Katia Ricciarelli, a true bel canto voice, and you'd immediate see the difference. Netrebko's voice is way too dark, and the agility is lessened by her placing the tongue too far back.
If Ms. Netrebko would concentrate more on the right repertoire for her voice, I would not have a single doubt that she would become one of the greatest sopranos singing on the operatic stage.
To judge her performances of Italian works and award her the diadem of operatic divas is simply commercial gimmick.

I have all of Anna's albums released in the UK and this is the one I always come back to. Many reviewers have cited The Russian Album as being the one that brings out Anna's true vocal magic. I can't disagree with that and, in addition, I personally love the "Opera" album (but then I adore Bellini) but "Souvenirs" has everything Anna that her other albums sometimes lack. A well constructed repertoire consisting of, I suspect, many of Anna's favourites. Like her oppo Elina Garanca, Anna clearly loves singing and also loves bel canto and in "Souvenirs" we have a pot pourri of lovely stuff. If you buy this album you will never regret it. I do not propose to recommend any particular track but, if you happen to take a shine to "Meine Lippen" may I suggest that you also purchase the DVD of the Baden Baden concert to see how Anna performs it live! You won't believe it and you won't regret it.

In conclusion, I simply say that, if you are a lover of beautiful voices and you buy this album and play it regularly, you will find that your 'smile' muscles suddenly become much more supple.

The appreciation of a certain voice is very subjective, but I love her warm tone and clear top range. The three duets are excellent and the extra DVD is a bonus. Nicely packaged as well (the discs, not Miss Netrebko).

Anna Netrebko singing 'Bacarolle' with Elena Garanca is superb on CD but even better when it is included on the DVD. The CD itself is a collection of work that includes some popular pieces such as the Bacarolle, as well as some that are not so familiar. Anna's singing is superb as ever and she easily transitions from Strauss to Lloyd Webber when she sings Pie Jesu better than I have heard it before.

The DVD gives a short insight into the behind the scenes of the production of the album and is quite interesting, it also contains 2 complete tracks from the recording session.
