To any student of Southend this book is more than just a volume of photographs of trams. The inclusion of large scale maps is very helpful even if, unfortunately, the maps do not cover the whole area. Text is short but expert (although nowhere near as comprehensive as Burrows' volume on Southend trams). I enjoyed the well produced illustrations which, in themselves, contribute to the photographic history of this once fascinating town. For anyone who remembers just how attractive Southend was before the council ripped its heart out this is a book to savour.
