Book Description

31 Aug 2000
This is a portfolio of the best of Steve McCurry's photography: classical, magical and powerful images from South and Southeast Asia. McCurry takes photographs all over the world, for National Geographic magazine and his own projects, but it is the people, places, colours and forms of Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Myanmar (Burma) that have inspired his most sublime images -- photographs which transcend their original editorial purpose to become classics of photography.

South Southeast features sixty-seven photographs with brief captions. A short text about McCurry introduces the book and he has written commentaries to accompany eight of the images, telling the stories behind them.

Beautifully presented, stunning photographs, highly evocative, a joy to have.
Steve McCurry has a special way of seeing things, and is able to capture it just at the right moment.
Being from South East Asia and also a photographer, I can highly recommend it to anyone who has a love for the East or anyone who appreciates beautiful images. Its like holding a magical journey in your hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master's work masterfully produced 8 Nov 2007
Format:Hardcover
I cannot but echo previous comments on the quality of the imagery. As i photograpgher myself i have been truly humbled by this man's dedication to his work, to photography, to capturing the east and the quality of the results. This part of the world is a sight to behold and done so perfectly here. I was lucky enough to see his work in a gallery in Edinburgh and he immediately became my most favourite of photographers.

What i must add is comments on the production of the book. It is A3 in size and each image has a whole A3 side to itself. This is just fantastic as so many photography books cram many images onto the page. Here you can enjoy the images in a larger size, soaking in the colour and environment. The book does justice to the work and is a must for anyone that loves travel/ documentary photography. This book and the photographer cannot come highly recommended enough.

By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I discovered this book whilst looking for images of India to prepare myself for a visit to the sub continent and was simply amazed by what Steve McCurry has captured in these photos. Needless to say I had to have it. I'm constently showing it to who ever graces my door & it never fails to amaze. Steve McCurry has an extraordinary talent for capturing the beauty of the south east.
