I bought this here because it was cheaper than on Steam.
I was overjoyed to find that upon entering the code into Steam that not only was this the Uncensored version (unlike Steam's own version), but that it was the pre-order version and contained all the pre-order DLC!!!

Cheaper, Uncensored and containing the Pre-Order DLS, you cant do better than that, well done Amazon, you have just guaranteed that all future Steam purchases will only be made after checking here first.

I bought this on a whim - I've vaguely followed South Park over the years, and the reviews looked good, I thought I might enjoy it.

Playing it.

I have never in my entire life laughed so much playing a game.

Not a wry smile, not "a good chortle" - proper loud enough to wake your spouse laughing, with my last sup coming out of my nose.
First off, it looks and feels like an extremely extended episode of the TV show. Put aside every horrific tie-in you've ever seen. Honestly this is the first "thing spun off to a game" thing that takes the source and builds something even better upon it.
The game mechanic that's been added is what makes it - it's a well polished RPG (which would have been fine), then with a 15 hour (and counting) SP episode built around it.

The best thing however is just the world that's been created by the cross-over - It's the RPG a set of imaginative and bickering children would make.
Admittedly sweary, violent children with a healthy engagement with Nazi-zombie-cows and featuring prompts such as "pull down now to dodge your paternal gonads as they swing out of the battle backdrop" - but there's genuinely just something sweetly innocent at the core.
If I had to say why I like this game so much, I think it's just because we've all spent our childhoods playing games - but I've never seen anything that tried to reflect that before and succeeded.
I've never been invaded by China, defeated zombies, worked for a covert branch of the CIA, risen to the top of a city crime family - BUT I have "fired a stick" at a friend and descended into a heated conversation as to whether they should be dead or not.

Being something of a lapsed South Park fan I approached the Stick of Truth without too high hopes, but the reviews on amazon and gaming literature give big thumbs up, so as a reward for getting a particularly dull presentation finished I got myself this as a little treat.

As a new kid in South Park you'll give straight into the children playing wizards and elves which picks up right after the end of the Game of Thrones skit in Season 17. Two factions led by Cartman and Kyle --humans and elves respectively-- fight for the "Stick of Truth" with the infectious make-believe fun of childhood that makes South Park and the game so enjoyable and even charming. You choose a class (not much impact on the story or gameplay) then get taken under Cartman's wing for the tutorial, after which you're free to explore all of South Park, levelling up though combat, missions and with extra skills unlocked by meeting people and performing side quests for the residents of South Park. Utilising the environment to take out enemies before combat can help you win difficult fights, and the turn-based combat system is well thought out, and integrates well with the skill trees, perks and equipment buffs to make the whole game feel tight and coherent.

then you are either a fan of South Park. Or buying this for someone who is a fan of South Park.

So stop wasting your time reading this stupid review and buy it!

It's cheaper than almost anywhere else online and activates though steam, so you have a copy forever.

nuff said.

While the game itself - including all story and sidequests - can be completed in around 5/6 hours, there is a small amount of replay value in that there are four possible classes to play as. There's also the fact that you won't be able to get 100% in one playthrough, so completionists will find themselves going through the game a second time, if not more. (I've played through all four classes and have about 75% completion on Steam.)

The only problem I really had with the game is that there are a couple of glitches that may require you to save and restart your game. Nothing major would be lost in the process, though - the game autosaves after entering any main room or after a quest has been given/completed.

I myself have been a fan of the show for a while, and this game is full of references to the show that fans will be smiling constantly, whether it be at character dialogue or hidden secrets for you to explore. However, I can see this game losing quite a bit of it's charm if you're not used to South Park's usual running gags and toilet humor. You may want to watch a couple of episodes before playing this if you're new to the show - who knows, you might keep watching the show afterwards anyways!

I'd recommend taking a look at this game anyway because while on the outside it doesn't seem too complex, the patches and upgrades to class abilities give this game a great amount of depth. And the story is pretty awesome too, even if it is just kids just roleplaying around town. Things get out of hand pretty quickly for them though, as it usually does in the show, so you'll find yourself picking sides and fighting all manners of enemies!
