From Amazon.co.uk

For those South Park fans who have wondered if their beloved animated series would lose its satirical edge after a decade on the air, the Complete Tenth Season boxed set provides a resounding negative. Creators Matt Park and Trey Stone come out swinging with the season opener, "The Return of Chef," which addresses both the media frenzy churned up over the headline-grabbing "Trapped in the Closet" episode from the previous season, as well as the departure of Isaac Hayes, who voiced the well-loved Chef (and netted the series its highest ratings for a debut episode in years). Not content to leave one religion alone, the show tackles the 2006 riots over the depiction of Mohammed in Dutch newspapers (and delivers a much-deserved zing to Family Guy) in the two-part "Cartoon Wars" (the revelation of Family Guy's real writers is among the funniest notions ever penned for South Park) and intelligent design in "Go God Go" (Mrs. Garrison is up in arms over being forced to teach evolution until the arrival of Richard Dawkins changes her mind). Also in the show's firing line are such sacred cows as Oprah Winfrey (Towelie pens a faux memoir a la A Million Little Pieces in "A Million Little Fibers"), Al Gore (who attempts to drum up interest in his hunt for the mythical "ManBearPig"), environmentalists (who create a new form of pollution with their hybrids in "Smug Alert!"), the popular online game World of Warcraft ("Make Love, Not Warcraft," which earned the series an Emmy nomination) and George W. Bush (who tangles with Kyle over 9/11 in "Mystery of the Urinal Deuce"). Of course, South Park wouldn't be South Park without moments of jaw-dropping bad taste, and viewers are treated to not one but two jokes about the death of Steve Irwin (including his appearance at a Halloween party thrown by Satan in the critically reviled "Hell on Earth 2006), children with terminal diseases, teacher-student sexual relations, and a whole host of bodily functions and absurdly graphic violence (the latter is provided by a trio of serial killers in "Hell on Earth 2006").--Paul Gaita

5.0 out of 5 stars South Park - Getting better and better 18 April 2009
By John
Format:DVD
Like a fine wine, South Park is only getting better with age. Dont listen to those who say it's quality is decreasing, let them keep watching Family Guy, we dont need them. This is a fantastic season, with excellent episodes that already go onto the list of all time greats. Make love not warcraft, Go God Go/ Go God Go XII and Mystery of the Urinal Deuce are the stand out episodes in my opinion thats not to say the other episodes are poor they are not, every episode in it's own way is full to the brim with quality something I personally believe none of it's animated rivals can match.

It's a fantastic season, well worth the money to buy. Roll on season 11.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic season with many classic episodes 4 April 2009
By nt_ccfc
Format:DVD
South Park season ten means business, it is an improved step up over season 9 as it takes risks and as a consequence is often hilarious. Pick of the bunch this season is the two parter "Cartoon Wars" (basically a piss take of family guy and a satire of the war on terror), "Make Love Not Warcraft" (a massively popular and inventive episode) also "Miss Teacher Bangs a Boy" (simple storyline but oh so funny) and how could I forget the end of Chef or "The Return of Chef" which sees the classic character return to South Park but he's not his usual self queue the jokes. Like every season there are a couple of duff episodes here, "Manbearpig" and "Stanleys Cup" which are not terrible but they are hardly classics. So for a final cliched comment to finish off this review, South Park Season 10 is an excellent example that the show has nowhere near lost its comedy edge and can still produce gold when it ups the tempo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye Chef 3 Oct 2010
By Paul Tapner TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A three disc fourteen episode collection of all the episodes from South Park's tenth season.

Language tracks: English German

Subtitles: English Danish Dutch Finnish German Norwegian Swedish.

Only extras ae short commentaries from the creators of the show that are on each episode and run for no more than five minutes. These are well worth listening to as they're articulate, enlightening, and very funny. Although they will occasionally contain uncensored strong language.

This was a tricky year for South Park as the previous one had seen Isaac Hayes quit the role of Chef since he wasn't happy with an episode that had taken the mickey out of scientology. And then a repeat run of that episode and one that satirised some catholic beliefs were pulled from their planned broadcasts.

Added to which the show then waded in with their response to the danish cartoons of the prophet Mohammed situation.

The first episode 'the return of chef' was their response to a press release - allegedly from Isaac Hayes - claiming he'd quit because the creators of the show were bigots. This was a red rag to a bull to them and they get their own back by satirising scientology and having chef say some rather extreme things. Not an episode for scientologists and as you'll see from other reviews it offended others but it has clever parodies of tv show styles for episodes like this, and it's very funny with it.

Next is 'smug alert' which gets at those who get too smug when they're doing what they think is enough to save the evironment. This is very well written.

Then comes the two parter 'cartoon wars'. An attack on censorhip and religious intolerance and the network who pulled those repeats, but remembered mostly for some sharp satire of rival cartoon family guy. Also one that might offend some, but also very funny.

'A million little fibers' combines literary satire with jokes about Oprah Winfrey and doesn't feature any of the regular characters just occasional one Towlee. It's funny but as mentioned on the commentary it's perhaps a little too weird for some.

'Manbearpig' is a satire on the behaviour of former US vice president Al Gore.

'Tsst' sees a dog trainer try to make cartman a better behaved child. An excellent pair of episodes, the latter in particular cutting right to the heart of the Cartman character.

'Make love not warcraft' satirises those who get a little too hooked on online gaming. With some stunning animation for the game scenes provided by the makers of world of warcraft this is really good.

'Mystery of the urinal deuce' looks at those who claim 9/11 was a US government conspiracy and makes some great points about that.

'Miss teacher bangs a boy' combines cartman becoming like dog the bounty hunter and a news story about a teacher who had a relationship with a pupil into a funny take on both.

'Hell on Earth 2006' combines parodies of the three stooges and my super sweet sixteen to great effect, although a joke about people's attitude to steve irwin's death may not go down well with some.

'Go god go' finds south park go after atheists now it's done religion, as cartman's quest for a wii lands him in the middle of a superb buck rogers parody and richard dawkins loses his head over a woman. The commentary makes it clear the latter parts of the episodes aren't perhaps the strongest they've ever done but as a whole it's a funny two parter.

And the season closes with 'stanley's cup' as stan takes over a peewee hockey team in a funny and very clever parody of sports movies. And the trailers for them. So if you're not familiar with those some of it may go over your head.

But all in all another great collection of another fine season.
