About the Author

Nick Cotton is one of the UK s leading cycle route consultants. He has written over 50 guides in the past 20 years, riding more than 40,000 miles in the course of his research. He has travelled and trekked extensively, climbing to over 18,000ft on three continents and has cycled in Morocco and Patagonia (the worst winds in the world!). He lives in the Lune Valley in Cumbria, between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. He is very partial to coffee, real ale and cakes, especially on the course of a ride. Six feet four and 14 stones needs a lot of fuel!

I have done all of the rides in here for the Surrey Hills AONB and found them all to be excellent.

The routes were all very consistent at their grade, with the vast majority of riding off-road, and covering a variety of surfaces. The OS maps are excellent and the written instructions very clear. The different routes access very different areas and take you well off the beaten track.

My only notes of caution is that I understand that mountain biking in the Downs is not viable in wet weather due to mud, so buy the book for a summer not a winter holiday!

Well chosen routes, with great scenery, challenging climbs and lovely downhill runs. Just the right length for a good morning workout. Very clear maps, step by step guidance, route overviews and stats. Would be great if accompanied by a website where routes could be downloaded onto a garmin bike computer or some such.

Have used Nick Cotton's books before, never fail to give detailed descriptions and maps of varied and interesting rides. My only suggestion would be maybe a link to download site to accompany the routes, so that purchaser could install gpx of route into their GPS devices.
